those are the test connectors. Puts your ECU into "test mode" if I'm not mistaken. If you drive with them connected your CEL will blink repeatedly, I'm sure.

 

What MarkyD said is true. For instance, you would connect those when loading an Accessport into your ECU.

 

I’ve been having issue with my new AP was about to send my ecu and my new AP after talking to Cobb but now that you say that does that apply to my 2009 Subaru wrx Impreza ?

Test mode - Connect them and fans will start cycling on and off and relays all over the place start clicking. CEL blinks too.

It's supposed to be disconnected. If you connect it the ECU goes into diagnostic mode.

I connected it while I was installing my stereo. I thought I disconnected it somehow. When I turned on the car, I almost had a heart attack! lights blinking, fan turning on and off! Don't do it!

when i installed my first stereo, i was suspicious of everything being wrong

and when i lost my fuel needle behind disasambled dash, i also found those green plugs, thinking that the first two owners must have unplugged them

btw, its been a month and still no sign of my needle :shake:

 

LOL I was trying to figure out why the cruise control didn't work in my 99 when I found plugs like that under the dash and connected them. When I started the car a "disabled" alarm I didn't know was there started going crazy. That was the start of a big headache. I wound up installing a new alarm, which I wanted anyway, but still.
And no cruise. Nice to finally know what the green plugs are for though.

I am all too familiar with those two little plugs...

 

on my jdm forester this green connectors is a "stand by" mode for check engine module (OBD2 or CAN bus), and black connectors for self-diagnostics.

Can’t wait to plug those nice green connectors once I get my AP back from shop. Right now my AP is still married to my old car. Stage 1 and than once I transfer some other stuff like my TD06 20g with supportive mods I will go with protune. Nic to know where they are cuz recently I just look on typical location like I used to on my impreza and couldn’t find anything

 

You know when you get that sick feeling in your stomach !!!! purchased my 2.5 06 XTe in Sept, had a slight sticky problem with shifter. During investigation found two green connectors under dash / steering wheel ?, thought they should be connected and so did exactly that.

On next start up CEL started flashing, disconnect plugs CEL went away.

Took car straight back to garage and thought previous owner had dupped the garage and then me by clever plug pulling move. Now apparently not the case I have discovered.

Car was taken back to local Scooby specialist who reported engine speed sensor failure, replaced it and CEL disappeared. on it's return I checked Green connectors were still connected, so as not to be fooled again ..HAH.. or so I thought !.

Been driving since Sept with plugs connected and no other fualts until today. See post under P0420 uuuurgghhh.

Can somebody please tell me what exactly am I doing with these plugs connected please? and perhaps more importantly whether I should disconnect them ?

Thanks TC2000. Have disconnected them. Unfortunatley no change in the Flashing Cruise, Steady CEL and Steady Stability Control Off warning that have come on in the last two days.

Have hunted the forum for an idea on why the Stabilty failure comes up with the Cruise and CEL, cant see any referance to it. The latter two would seem to piont to a P0420 code problem, but not the Traction control. Cant see the connection between them.

Any Idea 's or perhaps somebody on here who might ?

Perhaps I should put up another thread or it may be better to wait until I have been able to read and reset the codes.

Am now awaiting newely ordered OBD Scanner and software to try and scan codes being thrown up.

I have the 2 larger green plugs pictured in the start of this thread. I also have 2 smaller green plugs. Should they be connected?

I'm not sure where these plugs are located in the car. My engine is in a VW Vanagon. I've just installed the engine in the van and have been having trouble getting it to run right. I wonder if these green plugs might have something to do with it.

I have a scangauge II permanently installed.

 

yup! did mine when I was upgrading my speakers and radio, I said huh! what is this doing unplugged, plugged it in and my check engine light came on oh, NO!! Then I remember that I had plugged the two green connectors and unplugged them and restarted the SF and bingo light off. What was weird was that the light would flash and not stay on constant. But I knew something was not right.

I just got a '10 Forester X, Right Hand Drive. Was looking around under the dash when I found these green plugs. Remembered reading something about plugs.....somewhere. Took me a while to find this thread again.

On my car they are on the left (passenger's) side just under front edge of the carpet.

 

Same thing on my 2010x Passenger side. Just saw them when installing the blue footwell lights. First thing that came to mind was "Hey some other accessory that I can install must plug into them. WRONG.

 

In Forester 2007 model there are two green plugs: "Test Mode Connector" and "Line End Connector". One is under steering column, one is on the left (passenger's) side under front edge of the carpet. They are connected in between (tandem), so it is fine to disconnect ANY.

 

Almost all subies have the green plugs; some on the left side, some models on the right. They arrive from the transport truck with the plugs connected. The "Pre-Delivery" inspection requires the dealership to disconnect them. I believe having them connected prevents the car from learning its enviorment (ie altitude, temp.) until the car is at its selling dealership.
During some testing procedures, and during a reflash of the cars computer we may reconnect them.
