I just bought a 99 and I locked the glove compartment with the only key that came with it . Now I can't unlock it, maybe the key that came with it just a valet key?

The problem now all my insurance documents are in the compartment...please help me, I need to unlock the compartment.

Anyone knows how?

BTW how many numbers or alphabets on the key number that on the metal plate which came with the original key set?? Do they look like this SUB30233K (I found the numbers on the owners manual maybe the previous owner wrote them down) If they are I am going to call the dealer a make me a new key.

Please help me

If you used the key to lock the glove box, you should be able to unlock it, theoretically.

Do you have the actual link to that page?

BTW anyone has any pics on how the lock works or someone can help me by taking pics of their glove compartment in this way I might find a way to unlock or break it

thanks

i would seriously just keep trying the key. wiggle it, jiggle it, turn the key around, you know the drill.

Tried it wiggled it almost broke my key in the end just broke the lock and ordered a new one from subaru dealer cost only $22 not bad consider a lock smith will charge $150 not including parts.

BTW thank you everyone :Banane35:

I am in the same situation. My daughter locked the key in the glove compartment and the only key I have now is the valet key. I took a look from underneath and was impressed at how the glove compartment was designed. It is made where you can not reach in from the back and will not come out without opening it first. That being said......Anyone know how to get it open without paying $$$.

BTW..the car is also a 99 Forester.

In case your are wondering how this happens like I was. Evidently, you can lock the glove compartment, take out the key and place it in the glove compartment, and then shut it.

You don't happen to still have or ever had the little tag that comes with the keys? That has a number the dealer can use to make another key. I'm not sure if they can get that number with the VIN or not.
