Help - Steel Rims

Earlier this year I joined the Yorkshire and Lincolnshire 4x4 Response which is part of a national volunteer organisation that provides experienced drivers & their vehicles for extreme weather events ie; snow, floods. At the beginning of the December snow I transported out-of-hours doctors and district nurses in Yorkshire.

I intend to fit winter tyres but also want a set of steel rims for them. The SH needs 5x100-48 in either 16in or 17in dia. and I would prefer a narrower rim of 5-6J, but not the ultra skinny 'space saver' / rally rim.

Every time I search all I seem to end up with are alloy or Land Rover steels :shake:.
So if you know where I can get some, any where in Europe, please post the info.

I think you will find it extremely hard to get an "aftermarket" steel rim to suit.

However, doesn't your SH forester come with a "Full size" steel spare???

Part number I believe is 28111SA280.(16 x 6.5JJ ET48) Item7 on link below

They also list another steel wheel 28111SA002 (item 8) but have no other info on size etc.

May not be cheap but an option.

Thanks so far, mine is a full size alloy :shake:, all these years moaning about having a steel rim as a spare

But the response is disappointing since there has been no sign of the courier vans forming an orderly queue at my door to deliver the steel rims that are going to be donated to the worthy cause :biggrin::biggrin:

Keep the suggestions coming :icon_biggrin:

the steel rims that are going to be donated to the worthy cause :biggrin::biggrin:
I think this is the relevant section :biggrin:

Why not approach IM (Subaru UK) for a contribution to a worthy cause

Why do you want steel rims, is it for cost reasons? You might find it easier and just as cheap to buy used alloys.

Isn't that the same size wheel as older Foz? (5x100-48) mine comes with a stell 16" spare mounting a 215 tyre.

I would prefer steel to give more option in choice of tyre as well as lower cost.

Approach IM, that's worth half a thought, I think :icon_question:

Thanks Ben, thanks Max for the links, I'll keep a watch on those but I suspect that the Gold alloy's will be too much bling for me and mine :icon_biggrin:

Apparently; Subaru UK
are expecting a delivery of 16" x 6.5 steel wheels in the next day or two which have part number 28111SA280 and are available to order through our dealer network
No price quoted and sadly no offer of sponsorship/support for the worthy cause.

And on the subject of the worthy cause, here is the blatant ad :- Yorkshire and Lincolnshire 4x4 Response are looking for more 4x4 Drivers/Vehicles and Controllers to help cope with the increasing demand for our Volunteer Services. As you can see from the photo at the Harewood Show (JohnSteel-Aug2010) the largest Forester to date is dwarfed by the fully hardened/tooled up OffRoaders. But we have our place, being light and nimble we can get to the places 'others can't reach'. So there is no disgrace being a member of the 'Chapter of Honourable Shopping Trolleys' within the Group.:biggrin::biggrin:

Not in the Yorks-Lincs area, then use the link option from our site to take you to the National4X4Response to get details for your area.

Silly boy, just give up work !!! :raspberry: But honestly, there is no minimum quota to fill and the times vary around the clock, from 1-2hrs upto 6-8hrs, it's a case of if you can volunteer, all help is welcome. The exception is the mdg Asthmatic N/A :raspberry:, unless of course Sarah & Abigail are driving :icon_wink:

MikeD, I'll check for you. Y&L4x4 only charge £10 and there is no need for a towbar .

I was vaguely interested because I could ferry essential people around in the snow (doctors etc.). However when I looked on the Hants/Berks web site the rules say I have to have a tow bar.

So the cost of volunteering for this is the £25 annual membership plus a towbar plus (probably) increased insurance. I'm not mean, but this is starting to add up. :icon_eek:
