I am thinking about getting a toll tag here in Oklahoma.

I have considered mounting it on the front of the sunroof. Could also do the bottom of the windshield. Maybe in the black area behind the rearview mirror if it is small enough.

 

I have my PikePass located directly beneath the black part at the top of the windshield. When I got the PikePass I asked them where to mount it so it would not interfere with the EyeSight cameras. Thats where they said to mount it so I did. I have not had any issues with EyeSight or the PikePass. I cannot see the PikePass when I am driving as it is hidden behind the rearview mirror with my driving position. If I knew how to upload a picture I would. That would explain where its located much better than I can explain here.

 

Many states have versions of their transponders that mount on the front license plate, if your state requires one.

The bottom of the windshield also works.

I've found that it doesn't need to be mounted in the windshield to work at all. We keep ours in the top-of-dash cubby and it works fine. Even from the glovebox or door pocket - the system will still read it from out-of-sight locations.

 

Thanks for the cross-reference. I might just try keeping it somewhere in the cabin and see what happens. Until I have my plates I'll have to remember to put it on the dash.

 

as long as you registered your license plate on the website, you don't need to carry the transponder with you.

you can strap it to the visor haha.

 

I mounted my PikePass on the passenger side front of the moonroof, works fine.

 

I took a few dabs of "tacky putty" and mounted my ezpass to the dashboard on the drivers side up near the windshield. It is a few inches to the Right of the speaker grill and an inch or so to the Left of the defroster vent and an inch back from the windshield.

Seriously, we are still using these hideous boxes. When I used to live in Sweden( 6 years ago), theirs was as small as a cell phone SIM card.

 

My EZPass is mounted in the masked off screened area of the windshield behind the rearview mirror. My assumption was that this screened area must be out of the field of view of the EyeSight cameras so putting my transponder there should have no impact.

Testing has proven this to be the case as I've had no odd EyeSight issues since mounting my EZPass in this location.

 

NY EZPass tag with Eye Sight

I was wondering if the EZ Pass tag will interfere with the eye sight if I mount the Tag above the rear view mirror on the windshield?

This is where it would look best and I am wondering if any other people with eye sight have mounted it at this location. Thanks

 

I carry my FastTrak in the glove compartment and have never had a problem with it missing a toll. I'm not mounting that stupid thing on my windshield.

Heh, something good about California! yay, me. We're allowed to move them from vehicle to vehicle as long as both vehicles are registered on the pass.

 

Here is a photo showing the position of my EZPass as well as my Blackvue dash cam which is mounted on my windshield directly behind my mirror. The EZPass is mounted in the masked out shaded area of the windshield above the mirror.

Both of these positions are outside of the view of the EyeSight cameras, though I was concerned about possible reflections from either of these devices being cast into the area of the glass through which the EyeSight cameras look. That hasn't been a problem, most likely since both are very close to the surface of the glass and hence aren't going to cast their reflections very far at all.

 

That is a great place and I will try it out in that same location.

I guess you have it to one side because it will not fit in the center? We have the newer type pass so it is a little smaller. Thanks for the photo!

Interestingly, NY EZ Pass website doesn't state that explicitly. It does mention 'external' transponder for trucks.

Was browsing the TSB website and found that Subaru has a Technical Service Bulletin out for dealing with proper placement of electronic toll collection devices.

Bulletin Description: The purpose of this bulletin is to provide guidelines for proper positioning of ETC devices, i.e., EZ Pass, Sun Pass, K-Tag, etc, in vehicles equipped with the new EyeSight system. Refer to the EyeSight Owner Manual and the applicable Service Manual for more detailed information.

If you are concerned with placement or need assistance, your dealership can look up the appropriate place for your specific tag.

I think most people on here have already figured out proper placement, but wanted to share this information.

 

I have mine attached to the bottom left hand corner of my windshield. This 6"x6" area is the only place where you can legally attach anything to the windshield in California.
It does not interfere with the current version of the EyeSight since it has 20 degree viewing angle, the next version has 40 degrees, I think that corner will still be safe for mounting.

No photos, but I had several on my company's fleet that were license plate mounted simply because it looked better than on the windshield. The LP models were a different shape - slim in height and wide, rather than square. They were also black, rather than white.

I have placed my CA Metro ExpressLanes (FasTrak before that) in many locations - behind the rearview mirror; top left, bottom left, top right, bottom right windshield corners; glove box; inside top-of-dash cubby; between the sunroof and the shade - and it works in all those locations. For the LA metro expresslanes it is required to place it in a location that can be easily viewed by authorities, which I ignored until one day I was pulled over by the highway patrol. He let me go after I promised to mount it in a correct location.

 

@beastmaster - I still haven't purchased a pikepass and I have been in Oklahoma for 3 years.

I just avoid toll roads whenever possible.

EZpass will provide you with an external tag that attaches to the front license plate at no charge upon request. You can also request tamper resistant screws to attach it with. Works well and no hunting for a place to mount on the windshield.

 

I ended up sticking it to the right of the EyeSight camera's. The transponder's leftmost edge (that's closest to the right EyeSight camera) is within that 13.8" range that Subaru states in the manual is outside of the camera's field of vision.

I've used it twice now and had no problems getting through the toll.

 

I mounted mine on the upper right hand corner of the windshield. Works fine.

 

Put it on my dash on non slip rubber mat.
