I too had the same problem and here's the answer (based on 2004 Subaru Forester XS):
Top row, left to right. Top row is identified by 2 missing connectors in the middle to allow for connection to harness. 1- Blue, 2- Blue w/red, 3- empty, 4- empty, 5- Black (ground), 6- Blue w/yellow, 7- Black w/blue. Bottom row, left to right. 8- Yellow w/black, 9- Red w/white, 10- Orange, 11- Green w/yellow, 12- empty, 13- Green w/black, 14- empty, 15- Green w/white, 16- Blue w/white.
Happy wiring!
having same problem with wires can someone send me diagram. thanks

OK...I got nabbed by the window switch plug too. :censored:

But hey, the speakers sounds great and the DynaMat works awesome!

I have run through all the posts I can find and it seems that the '08 FSXT has two wires that are different colors from the other years.

The schematic I have for an '08 does not show the color wires I have either. They show different color scheme for two wires.

Does anyone an actual photo of their '08 D7 plug?

Mine has 4 pin slots on the left of the lock tab and 3 on the right in the top row of 7. There are 9 pin slots across the bottom - 16 pin slots total.

The color wires (12 in all) I have are...

  1. - BLU
  2. - BLU/RED
  3. - BLK (Heavy Gage)
  4. - BLU/YEL
  5. - BLK/BLU
  6. - YEL/RED
  7. - RED/YEL
  8. - GRN/BLK
  9. - GRN/YEL
  10. - GRN/BLK (Heavy Gage)
  11. - GRN/WHT
  12. - BLU/WHT

I didn't find any bad fuses and the voltage seems to be there. I re-pinned the plug the best way I could figure and still got nothing.

Thanks!

Well, that would explain it. #1 on the '08 is not the same #1 as shown in the previous posts. Or said another way, the wiring on previous models is 180 degs. different.

I have the wires in the right spots but 180 out. I will change things up and see how that works out. If it doesn't work after that, then I guess I toasted the assembly.

Thank you VERY much for pointing me to your photos.

Please Help, pwr Windows and locks not working

Hi, I have had a problem trying to upgrade my speakers. On the driver side door i took off the wiring loom for the power locks, Windows and accidentally took it off to far so now im left with 12 coloured wires. I followed some posts on here but didnt have any luck- I lined all the colors back up as per the image below however nothing is working still and one of my window switches is now locking the doors.
Its a 03 xs left hand drive!
Cheers Sean

► Moderator's note - the attached image is for the RHD. @surfingsubi has a LHD '03. I suspect that's the reason his connector D7 repining didn't work!

I will confirm this to match 100% for a 2003 forester XS US model. In my research I noted that some people had 2 Green/Black wires. In that case I can only assume the FAT one goes to 13 and the thin to 10. In fact most of the wiring diagrams I saw for my most SG5's showed the 2 Green/Black wires and no Orange.

Also make sure to orientate the pins in the holes correctly so the comb seats into and locks into the connector body. In addition make sure to fully seat the pins. On the side of the conenctor you can see 2 small windows for each pin. You should be able to see metal in both. I shined a small flashlight to help me see. Finally, be sure to fully seat the entire D7 connector into the switch console.

Overall this really sucked and reminded me why I rather be working on my old Mercedes! I had poopty connectors, but worse than that, I kinda knew I was making a mistake, but I just did not see the release for the whole connector, just the release for the comb. Oh well, live and learn. Thanks everyone that helped with this subject...

Dan, you're a LIFESAVER! Thank you so much! Took me a minute to figure out I was looking at the connector from the wrong side, but once I corrected my perspective, everything came together fine and all is well again!

(For anyone else, this also works for a 2003 Forester 2.5XS with power locks.)

2016 2.5i - SJ

I have recently picked up my new whip. One of the first things was to replace the factory speakers; I think a few know where this is going. To those who don't, I disassembled the door lock wiring harness clip and flayed out the pins thinking I removed the harness.

According to the old thread for previous gen foresters (this thread), I have done my best to match my pins with many of the diagrams and pictures with failure; my colors do not match up with previous generations.

So, I have 13 pins not knowing where they actually go.

If anybody has a wiring diagram/schematic of the current gen Forester driver door (D7), has a picture of the current driver door lock wiring harness, or knows if any other Subaru has the same wire configuration (e.g. if the Outback has a similar harness), please send some help. I am in need of closing my driver window, manually if necessary.

FYI, I have "played" with the pins and managed to close 3 of the 4 windows, leaving my driver window open. In doing so, I can conclude the black/blue wire & the light blue wire are used for lock & unlock (or vice versa).

The attached pictures are the same pins but at different angles, all for clarity and reference.

Edit - FIXED! All with respect to connector D7 as a 2016 2.5i model with the minimal options:
1. Black
2. Red with Yellow
3. Light Blue

4. Green with Red

14. Green with Black

Cant believe how complicated my error has become

I thought I would read the forum for 30 mins and tackle what many have done before me (diagnose driver side electric window failure on my 2007 model). :smile2:

I managed to screw up the pins and after now spending maybe 6 hours I still can not determine exactly the pin config for my model.
:frown2:

I did try this:

1. Blue 2. Blue\Red 3. 4. 5. Black 6. Blue\Yellow 7. Black\Blue

8. Yellow\Red 9. Red\White 10. Black\Green 11.Green\Yellow 12. 13. Green\Black 14. 15. Green\White 16. Blue\White

I did get a smell, so disconnected immediately.:|

I noticed "ohagas" a fellow Aussie on another forum mentioned his mates 2006 D7 pin config was different to his 2004.

Does anyone have a 2007 wiring config for D7 plug?

Some Help Please!

My window harness separated when I was trying to replace my switches does anyone have a good schematic of the wiring of the switch. Please help.

This has been an incredible useful thread. I also accidentally removed the connectors from the wiring harness while trying to troubleshoot the window switches (two fronts wouldn't work). The issue was simple enough - the connectors were not making good contact with the switch.

Disclaimer - I have a 2004 Forester XS - LHD

The D7 wiring diagrams posted earlier in this thread was exactly what I needed. For future reference, a simplified breakdown is below. I have verified that this works perfectly for my vehicle.

1 - Blue (L)
2 - Blue/Red (LR)
3 - blank
4 - blank
5 - Black (B)
6 - Blue/Yellow (LY)
7 - Black/Blue (BL)
8 - Yellow/Black (YB)
9 - Red/White (RW)
10 - Orange (Or)
11 - Green/Yellow (GY)
12 - blank
13 - Green/Black (GB)
14 - blank
15 - Green/White (GW)
16 - Blue/White (LW)

I have a 2006 forester X and the post before me works. I was also a victim of the harness coming apart after trying to upgrade my speakers. I will admit that I have the passenger side apart still so that does not work right now. As stated above be sure you have your connectors seated all the way in. Tried it once before and didn't work but once I got them all really shoved them in there properly it worked. I even went to a junk yard to find a harness that worked the same but didn't match up so I tried it one more time. Hope I can get the others to work the same. If you can get the little lights on the push buttons to work I think you're golden, at least I was. Cheers!

Almost 9 years later! I just registered to thank you! This worked exactly right!

Thanks!

Holy crap, I love this forum so much right now. Dan S - your 1 post ever here has been more valuable than dozens of my posts combined.

Yup, nice to see I'm not the first one to do this. Is it just me, or is separating wiring harness connectors the most difficult part of any car job? Why the hell does Subaru put the harness release tabs for all these connectors in the MOST INACCESSIBLE SIDE?

Window controls don't work--04 Forester

I was trying to my aunt fix her driver side window actuator in her forester. I got the door panel off and tried disconnecting the wiring harness connector. When it came apart all of the terminals disconnected from the housing. While putting things back together, a few terminals touched and now none of the window controls work. No controls on the driver door work. The lock controls on the passenger doors work.

I've checked all of the fuses. All are good. Did I blow a relay?
