Hi guys,

Reasonably new to the forum with regards to joining and posting.
Not new to searching on here and finding my answers so thanks for that. Iv been modding and DIYing since own cars.
Iv had subies for many years now, I'm on my 6th one coming. I'm from uk but living in Singapore. Currently own a 2010 2.5XT, loved it so much I'm buying a second one.
Used to have a Integra dc5 type r as well as the current XT, however after 2 theft attempts of the Honda in the space of 6 months I got fed up changing door locks and ignition barrels etc. So traded her for another 2010 2.5XT. So yeah I have 2 now! Lol
With that being said I'm mechanically inclined and not bad on electrics.
Due to the theft attempts my plan is to wire in a kill switch on the fuel pump relay. Interupt the signal wire that closes the contacts with a switch. Then I'll mount the switch hidden somewhere, not telling! Lol So where is the relay?
Also planning to wire in a second momentary switch on the starter relay so would have to press the button and turn the key to start the engine. Will hide that also. Again, where is the relay?

I tried searching this year model but only can find the older models.

As you can tell I'm paranoid now!
Cheers guys,
Iain

Not sure if I posted that in the right section, electrical? Yes I think so...

Your year car should already contain the immoblizer. This means if a start is attempted when your specific key is not present, a fuse inside the ECU trips and the car will not start at all, short of actually dragging it onto a flatbed to steal it. In other words, these cars cannot be hot-wired.

The problem here is that no matter what you try and do, whether it be a kill switch for the fuel pump or ignition or what have you, the sheer fact that the car was attempting to be started without the key, will trip the immobilizer. So its a an unnecessary redundancy that will not matter in the end anyway. Its great how far tech has come over the years.

I can totally relate though, used to play with Hondas and such way back when and theft was a pretty decent issue with them, so wiring a simple killswitch into the fuel or ignition power lines was always a must because of how easy those cars are to hot-wire and drive away. Today, not so much. Advances in security have come a long way and any smart thief knows that their not going to be driving away with your car unless its on a flatbed. Your money is better invested in say, a very decent security system with GPS tracking abilities and a remote that goes crazy anytime someone so much as breathes on it.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for your reply.
Yeah it does have immobilizer. I suppose your right, I'm just being a bit twitchy since the last one...
In saying that, before the XT, I had a 08 hatchback WRX, exact same key as the XT. I bought it second hand and it only came with one key. So I had another key cut and copied with the same code. I could start that car without the original key anywhere in sight. But they had to copy the code from within the original transponder. Thieves won't have my key...

I'll drop the idea of the kill switches I guess. Put the money towards that new turbo. ;)

@MaTTyBiGs,
Yes, the 2010 key needs to have a chip and be programmed to the car if you were ever to replace it.
@Elder303,
If you decide to still follow through, the spot that are you looking to hook up the wire to the fuel pump relay, atleast on the USDM, is the passenger side under the glove box area. I was watching when I had mine done, although I knew it wasn't necessary, I was being a guinea pig for the 2010.

following.

The previous owner of my 2009 XT installed a Lo-Jack system. I had it transferred into my name when I bought the car. I can say for sure that it works. When the Lo-Jack key fob got wet after I accidentally dove into a pool with my keys in my pocket, I got an email and a text saying "my car was being moved without my authorization" within 2 minutes of starting my car when I left the party.

I actually did a custom kill switch on my Saabaru (Saab WRX wagon). I looked at cutting signal to the fuel pump 'relay' (just the word I'm using, it's not high voltage or anything). I found that the car would run for a second or two and then die. It didn't sound very good so I then looked at interrupting the signal to the starter. This seemed a much better choice as the car would try and try to start but would not turn over. Anyway, that car didn't have an immobilizer so I liked the added protection. No clue where the relay for your car would be but here is the walkthrough I created. Pay no nevermind to the naysayers, in all the years it's been in place I have never had an issue with my kill switch. Unless you want to count the time I left it on when I dropped the car off at a performance shop and forgot to tell them about it :) but it still took a Subie specialty shop a couple hours to find it!
