They would work fine.

As you said, your ground clearance would be slightly lower and the speedometer would be slightly off. 60 MPH on the speedometer would have you going 62 MPH in reality.

 

going to a smaller diameter has the opposite effect no?

60 on the speedo would be ~58?

That is what I was hoping, it was killing me thinking a brand new set of tires would go unused.

 

The size will "work" but throw off the odometer; but look at the weight specs on that tire; your vehicle is heavier than the old SH and out of the tire load rating.

I just sold (dumped) my old altimax's for this very reason.

Hi Guys, new to this forum and this is the closest topic I could find on the search for my question.

Any opinions or better yet experience going a little larger with tires on the latest generation of Forester? I have a 2018 2.5i with the stock 225 60r17s.

It seems pretty tight in wheel wells so I'm guessing not really possible without a lift, which I wouldn't do until the vehicle is a few years old...

 

This is one of the more common questions on SF.org. You are correct; there are pretty tight tolerances that limit our tire sizes. Are you planning to keep the OEM wheels? If not, then consider dropping down to a 15" wheel to increase the number of tire options.

No issues.

The 225/55/R17 is the 2013-2017 Crosstrek tire size. I've used our Corsstrek winter wheels/tires on my '16 Forester without issue. The car will sit slightly lower, the wheel well will have more empty space and the speedometer will be artificially high (and your vehicle's millage will increases at a slightly higher rate). However, the speed/odometer differences will likely be a couple percent only, not a big deal.

 

Thanks for the reply High Desert. I will keep the 17s. Just looking for a small bump in size up like to a 235 60r 17. I will pull out a measuring tape and measure at different tire angles though you just never know until you are hitting bumps etc I suppose. And of course I will have to get the OK from the dealership, I don't want to mess around with them trying to get out of any future warranty work if ever needed over something like that.
