Sloppy Shifting

Just put a deposit down on a '98 Forester 5-speed this past weekend, pick the car up next week. Car's in great condition except the shifter which has a broken spring (it doesn't stay between third and fourth, gravity pulls it off to the side since there is no spring tension). Also feels like shifting a wet noodle.

Anyway, the shop is replacing the shifter springs before I take delivery, but I'm going to want to change the bushing out to firm things up a bit.

Any advice, warnings, and more importantly ... places to get the part(s) online? This is my first Subaru, and this is the first forum I've joined ... any help for this newbie would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome. :) AFAIK there is no external shifter spring like on the older subaru's it's all internal. It almost sounds like a syncro issue. for some info on shifters you can do to our site an look in the Kartboy section:
