Hey. I’ve got a 01 Forester and I got the engine warning light on. Checked the error codes and got p0031. So after some messing around I replaced the front manifold sensor. Light came on again straight away. I cleared the codes and back on again. So I figured it was the harness somewhere. I found a spice on what I think is the power supply but there’s a large gray armoured cable with black and white wires inside and a bare copper wire(just cut not connected to anything) is this a splice from somewhere else? Is it the heater wires?

The large grey "shielded" cable is the signal wire (black and white) back to the ECU.
Yellow/red is the supply from the main relay and white is the heater return to the ECU.

What A/F sensor have you tried as a replacement?

OEM Part number for AT model is 22690AA490 or *AA491

Thanks. This is a big help. Been looking for a wiring diagram online for ages. I brought a sensor from Rgt automotive. They sent me a rear sensor but said that it could be used as the pre-cat too. Is this true? Seams a bit sus’ to me to be honest. The looked a little different, less holes in the end..?

Utter rubbish.

The manifold sensor is a semi-wideband sensor that as it's official name (Oxygen (A/F) sensor) suggests controls the air/fuel ratio.

Most people would recommend getting an OEM replacement.
