2017 - Intermittent srs light on - Updated!

I've been getting the srs light on intermittently for the past week or so. Most times it turns off if I turn off the car and then back on. Before going to the dealer, is there anything I can do to fix it, maybe a loose connection? This is a 2017 Premium with low miles, first owner, these things should not happen...

Overall, I'm quite disappointed with Subaru, based on my experience with this car.

Thank you!

One thing you can check yourself is the connector under the seat... If you ever store anything under there, it can disturb the connection.
Some earlier years had reported problems but likely don't relate to your issue with your '17..
Like all electric issues, there are many potential points of failure, but at least the above is one you can easily check yourself.
Good luck.

I've had the same issue. Usually it turns on more after I've cleaned the inside of my car. Sometimes jiggling the wires under the seat helps. Dealer says the sensor under the passenger seat is loose and the whole thing needs to be switched out. Waiting for the part to get the work done, covered by standard warranty (only 17k miles)

I'm amazed that this problem which seems to have begun with the SGs is still an issue! Disconnect the battery then disconnect the plugs under the seat. Clean the contacts with a small file, e.g. a points file, then apply a small smear of conductive graphite grease to the contacts.

Intermittent srs light on

So the dealership called and they said it's water damage. I only spilled coffee once about a year ago on the side of the seat. Now they're asking for close to $1000 to replace the seat cushion

Krikey!
I think you could find a great condition '17 seat from a wreck for *slightly* less than a GRAND!
Oh, and after they replace the cushion and you still have a problem, I'm sure they will say oops... but not give you a refund...
That's ridiculous. And it's just the cushion? I'd be looking for a plan B... Find your own seat and save a lot of money.

BTW - Did you try cleaning the connector?
Adding a compound to a cleaned connector reduce resistance is a proven winner (unless the seat switch was correctly diagnosed).

I left the windows open in a downpour. The rain was mostly entering the passenger side and soaked both front and rear passenger seats. The only issue I had was the warning next to the MDF said the air bag was on at all times. This corrected itself the following morning and is working fine now. I would question the dealer on this.]

Called the dealership today (after one month) and they're telling me I have to wait until September as there are no parts in the US for the repair I need done. I already paid them $700 and change for the part but have to wait three months for a repair? That's ridiculous!

@yogibear

You should find another dealership. First off the water damage claim is crap IMO. This should have been covered under warranty and fixed already. Am I understanding correctly that you had to pay up front for the seat cushion? If so, that's the second reason.

Did you contact Subaru of America about this? If not do so ASAP they can be a great help in a situation like this. SOA has proved helpful in the past with my mother's "06 Outback and my "17 XT.

This should be a warranty issue and you should have NEVER given them any money for the part they said they ordered. This is BS and you should have contacted SOA regarding this matter or gone to another dealer.

I did have a coffee stain on the seat so I can't claim is not water damage....also, they said there are no parts in inventory anywhere in the country so I have to wait for the next shipment

I'll try contacting soa and see what they say

120 day backorder for seat cushion or new SRS sensor?

Hello all - We are having a similar experience. Intermittent SRS light coming on from time to time. No predictable pattern to when it comes on. We have not spilled any liquid on it and live in a dry climate, so I think water damage is very unlikely.

We are under warranty, so I took it to the dealer. They confirmed it would be covered under warranty. BUT - They are reporting a 120 day backlog in the part. That seems absurdly long.

I have a pregnant wife and an toddler, so driving a car without reliable airbags is not an option, nor is waiting 120 days to be able to drive the car (we have to be able to get to the hospital when the baby comes!).

We spoke with one other dealer and they also said they have had similar challenges getting parts for newer models.

  • Has anyone else heard of a similar delay? Is there anything we can do to accelerate that? Can Subaru of America help?
  • Is this a situation where the dealer should give us a free loaner?
  • Is it safe to drive with the light on?

Any advice would be very welcome. Thanks in advance.

Peter

That is exactly what I was told. Order for the part was placed on June 22 and I have to wait till mid-September for delivery. As a 'anxiety reducing note' the airbag still works if the srs light is not on and most times a restart of the car would clear the error.

It's the sensor that's embedded in the seat cushion...quite expensive at more than 7 hundred dollars plus labor
My writeup from the dealer says "Scanned body control/airbag system and found code b1760 sensor mat malfunction. Checked seat and could not find any hard evidence of major moisture or wetness from seat. Checked and found all connectors and wiring intact and secure. Rec replacing sensor mat/lower seat assembly. pa sent. PART ON ORDER”.

Hope that helps.

Hi there, so I just got a 2017 Diesel (my fourth Subie) and still getting used to all that's new about this one. All seems OK but I am questioning what appears to be a passenger SRS OFF warning light. I drive mostly alone so there us normally nobody/nothing in the passenger seat. Is it supposed to be illuminated at all times when the seat is empty? It's a bit distracting seeing it there all the time since there's nothing I can or should do about it. Other posts here seem only to reference the 'SRS light', not whether it is the ON or OFF light... The manual did not seem to shed much information on the subject...
