Fuel line quick disconnect retainer

Are the fuel line quick disconnect retainers (would be item 20 on page FU(H4SO)-6 of the manual) Subaru specific or are they a universal part? I don't have a dealer in town, wondering if I need to call Jackie to get them or can get them at a NAPA store. 2007 Forester.

I'm sure they are a universal part.

But why are you asking? If you are having problems with the fuel dampers (not an unknown problem), why not just disconnect them with the screw clamp?
Not sure what you mean. This is the fuel delivery line quick connect that attaches to the fuel pump on top of the tank. There is no screw clamp. The retainer is a plastic part that fits inside the quick disconnect.

The project is to replace everything the dealer did not replace that was supposed to be replaced according to the manual. That includes the fuel pump gasket, and the retainer. Ever since the dealer did a recall that required the removal of the fuel pump, I've had an 0442 code. They refuse to admit any responsibility and in fact lied to me telling me they went nowhere that could have caused it. Removing the fuel pump certainly could have caused it.

You don't need any special tools to remove the quick connect fitting on top of the fuel tank. I just used my fingers.

You can view my filter & fuel pump write up here in my Member Journal.

A special release tool, you can view mine here is required for the fuel line fittings in the engine compartment, but not the ones on the fuel tank.

Thanks, in fact your write up is the one I've been using as a guide. There are some differences however:

The fuel pump tank flange on mine only has two lines out, one is a vapor line that has a spring clamp and the other is a fuel delivery line that has the retainer. It will NOT come off without the tool, and in fact it is the same fitting as the engine side. Additionally, in my manual the disconnect is shown to be the same part and the retainer is shown to be the same part, both ends.

Could be the difference between T and non-T?

Could be changed when the recall was done?

Could be a later or earlier model, same model year?

I don't know, just know I need to get this 0442 found and fixed cause it is driving me crazy whenever my cruise drops out in the middle of a trip.

By the way thanks for the info on not tearing up the clips or panels when removing the rear deck panels. I don't have to worry about that, the dealer already broke them all when they did the recall and never replaced them.

I vaguely remembered that recall... http://www.subaruforester.org/vbull...rvice-program-wvl-22-2005-2008-n-forester-2005-2007-n-impreza-62810/#post694903 so I looked thru it. Seems strange that the recall was ONLY for the naturally aspirated & didn't include the XT!

Very strange that your '07 has different fuel tank line connectors than my '07 FSXT.

Well to clear up your confusuion, it doesn't have a different connector. I did order the retainers and you are right, with some significant force it will slide off when the old retainer is depressed. I replaced the fuel pump gasket and put a new retainer on the quick connect. I thought I had the 0442 code licked because I found what I was sure was the problem. But the new gasket, properly set and torqued did not fix the code, it continues to come back. Picture below is what I found that the dealer did when they pulled the pump to do the recall. notice the number 3 stud in the torque sequence, kind of missed the hole and pushed the gasket in. I'm at the end of my rope, going to take this thing out and shoot it. this work, a complete inspection of the system, two smoke tests and 3 years and 30K miles later I still can't use my cruise control because of the 0442 code. At any rate, thanks for your help with the LAST Subaru I will ever own.
