COBB AccessPort in the UK....

Hi guys,

Has anyone had any experience with the Cobb AccessPort in the UK? I know they're well respected State-side but you don't hear much about them over here.

The reason I ask is that I've spotted that CDF Racing supply them and I quite like the fact that I could swap the performance map back and forth with a stock / economy map.

cant say I've ever heard of them, but if its a switchable map youre looking for, a company called GCL tuning advertises a 3 stage switchable map on another forum I frequent.

I think they're updating the website, so here's the info they posted on the other forum

The GCL ST3 unit provides not one but up to THREE switchable remaps, meaning that you can switch between your cars standard software and two modified fully custom remaps of your choice.

This is a fantastic product as it provides much more flexibility and control over your car.

Having your standard file avaliable at a switch of a button is great for new cars or people not wanting to run remapped software on their vehicle all the time.

The TWO custom remaps can be whatever you wish, the majority go for two contrasting ones eg Max Economy and Performance, but as the remaps are fully custom you can choose exactly what you want.

The three software files will be stored on the ST3 and are yours to keep for life meaning that you can switch between the three where ever and when ever you wish.

AND you keep the unit for life, so if you buy a new car you can keep the unit and purchase new files for a small cost

That's what I had thought.

I could go the EasyECU (Ecutek) route but that gets very expensive since you need to have the car mapped in the first place, then pay for the EasyECU license plus a mapper's time for any subsequent maps required etc.

Fivos, not sure if RaceRom would work on mine - I think it's only for fly-be-wire cars(?).

I have an ODBII cable and ROMRaider etc so I'd happily swap open source maps back and forth off a laptop but I don't know of any reputable open source mappers in my area - Bob Rawle is Ecutek only, not sure about JGM. I'd be prepared to have a go at doing it myself if engine rebuilds weren't so expensive

The Cobb would be a nice solution if they've now got it to work with EDM vehicles. Will pinged a message over to CDF and see what they say.

Do you guys know where i can get off the shelf maps in the uk, cause my car is not in uk? But if i had OTS map I could buy the Tactrix cable and load the map myself. I personally don't believe tuners over there are any good.So can anybody suggest?

Not quite sure if he's in your areas or goes that way, but "Dynamix" is open source and gaining a bit of a following on Surreyscoobies.
Yeah, I'd spotted him on SN - Cambridge based I believe so not a million miles away. Would be worth an email to find out if he'd come this far.

Ian, Megarom (already available) is for non DBW cars, Racerom is DBW.
I am not sure whether Magarom supports dual maps though, BR has mapped his JDM one and has a thread in SN.
Btw, forget about launch control and flat foot shifting unless you can afford gearbox rebuilds!

Someone try one of these switching units - I'm real curious to know whether switching to a 'puny' setting can actually save fuel compared to driving carefully.

In the States they sell these with a 'really puny' setting because of all the valet parking over there so that the eejits that park your car dont treat it like the Ferrari in Ferris Bueller's day off.

I think you can have switchable maps with a stock Ecutek tune so long as you tell the mapper you want it (switching is achieved my holding the throttle down and pressing the rear de-mister according to the EcuTek site).

A custom tune is obviously the best option but the AccessPORT has the advantage of being pretty convenient.

It's all a bit smoke and mirrors this tuning malarkey... maybe I'll just crank the boost up and advance the ignition timing with ROMRaider then just hope for the best - I mean, what's the worst that could happen??????!!!!!

Strange what you mention FG, spinning the wheels without the turbo being on boost?! As NDS says.
I have only managed to spin the inner wheels at the exit of bends when cornering enthusiastically and you can then feel the LSDs working and pulling you towards the inside of the bend

Agreed.

Totally shat my Dad up doing that once.....he thought the rear end was sliding into oversteer, and then panicked when I kept the power on (HARD) haha.
Beautiful, LOVE All wheel drive :woohoo:

It's addictive isn't it?
I tried it on the Ring last weekend, very good fun on the dry and when you provoke it/expect it.
But, I skidded twice on the wet with all 4 wheels (not due to power but lack of grip/tightening my lines) and shat myself, but fortunately I did not panick and stayed on the power and the car regained grip after half a second or so. It must have been more scary for my instructor
