2019 - Engine Air Filter / Cabin Air filter - lifespan?

Vehicle Details:
2019 Forester
I just replaced the OEM engine air and cabin air filters in our 2019 Forester and 2018 Crosstrek.

Surprised to find that the engine air filter was almost white and certainly NOT dirty. Cabin airs were definitely dirty and appeared like their lifespan had been reached BUT curious as to how the engine air filters look so "new".........we now live in Jacksonville, Florida but previously, until 2022, lived in New Hampshire.

I replaced BOTH of the engine air filters anyway but it seemed like a waste of money.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks,

Steve

Both of the Forries are just past 30K miles.!

My thanks to you all (Hello Bobby!)....it's been awhile.

I understand all of the points made here. After 33K miles, I expected to see more than a very slight film of dust on the engine air filter....it was accumulated over 25K miles in NH, a small and probably far less traffic density state, the rest was the long drive down to JAX, FL from NH on the highways and with semis all around us so I expected more visible dirt BUT....as pointed out, at the price for a new one, why not just do it anyway?

Thanks, my friends!

Steve

Back when I was still trying to get the most "performance" out of smaller 4 cylinder engines, be they Subes or Hondas, I used K&N air filters....imagining that I felt a performance boost.....ha ha ha. What a sucker I was. The good thing about getting older is that I'm much more cynical about "too good to be true" upgrades.......I'm too lazy to even install an engine on/off cutoff gadget to stop the annoying engine off/on "feature".........I've learned to play the accelerator like a musical instrument when I'm at lights.

Naturally, where you operate the car makes a difference. Up in NH, cabin/engine air filters lasted much longer generally......no industry or pollution to speak of other than what blows towards the state from the industrialized midwest........should be interesting to see how long the just replaced air filters will last. We're starting to suffer the green tree pollen down here in JAX....and bugs? Don't even ask.
