120 day backorder for seat cushion or new SRS sensor?

Hello all - We are having a similar experience. Intermittent SRS light coming on from time to time. No predictable pattern to when it comes on. We have not spilled any liquid on it and live in a dry climate, so I think water damage is very unlikely.

We are under warranty, so I took it to the dealer. They confirmed it would be covered under warranty. BUT - They are reporting a 120 day backlog in the part. That seems absurdly long.

I have a pregnant wife and an toddler, so driving a car without reliable airbags is not an option, nor is waiting 120 days to be able to drive the car (we have to be able to get to the hospital when the baby comes!).

We spoke with one other dealer and they also said they have had similar challenges getting parts for newer models.

  • Has anyone else heard of a similar delay? Is there anything we can do to accelerate that? Can Subaru of America help?
  • Is this a situation where the dealer should give us a free loaner?
  • Is it safe to drive with the light on?

Any advice would be very welcome. Thanks in advance.

Peter

That is exactly what I was told. Order for the part was placed on June 22 and I have to wait till mid-September for delivery. As a 'anxiety reducing note' the airbag still works if the srs light is not on and most times a restart of the car would clear the error.

It's the sensor that's embedded in the seat cushion...quite expensive at more than 7 hundred dollars plus labor

My writeup from the dealer says "Scanned body control/airbag system and found code b1760 sensor mat malfunction. Checked seat and could not find any hard evidence of major moisture or wetness from seat. Checked and found all connectors and wiring intact and secure. Rec replacing sensor mat/lower seat assembly. pa sent. PART ON ORDER”.

Hope that helps.

Latest Update: SOA came through and even though the code said it was water damage, they'll cover the repair and not only that but the part will arrive at the dealership on Monday as opposed to September. [emoji106]SOA

Hi there, so I just got a 2017 Diesel (my fourth Subie) and still getting used to all that's new about this one. All seems OK but I am questioning what appears to be a passenger SRS OFF warning light. I drive mostly alone so there us normally nobody/nothing in the passenger seat. Is it supposed to be illuminated at all times when the seat is empty? It's a bit distracting seeing it there all the time since there's nothing I can or should do about it. Other posts here seem only to reference the 'SRS light', not whether it is the ON or OFF light... The manual did not seem to shed much information on the subject...

Yes, it says "Passenger Airbag on " or "passenger airbag off"
You can test it by putting something on the passenger seat. It should switch over. (don't know how heavy it needs to be)

Thanks, GuusV, that's a bit annoying that it is constantly giving an amber warning even though it's operating as normal. Hmmm...unless that can be reprogrammed to go out, might call for a piece of electrical or gaffer tape...

These, what appear to be, "warning" lights, but are just notification lights started with the 2009 models.

I've actually seen people put window blinding film over them to make them less "annoying"

Hi Yogibear, I know this is an old issue, but I've just had the same issue emerge on my 2015 Forester. Did SOA agree to pay for yours because it was still under warranty?

Thanks!
