Just had my 17XT catalytic converter replaced under a recent recall. Glad to have a new cat with the car being 8 years old but don't understand the history behind the recall as my car was running just fine before. Anyone knows more about the original problem?

It is only the secondary cat, not the primary cat so it is still possible to need a primary replacement down the road if a P0420 DTC pops up.
The sensor that will throw the P0420 is between the cats, so it only really monitors the front cat. (In my limited experience, the P0420 code has been a faulty O2 sensor and not a bad cat more times than not.)
Neither cat is particularly problematic. This current recall is a voluntary one, I'm going to have it done, even though I plan to add a catted J-pipe soon.
