Wanting To Replace My Head Unit,How Many People Have Changed There's And What Did They Use.What Is The Down Fall Of Replacing It?

I added the 6 Kicker upgrade speakers, a Pioneer Z140BH and a Focal IBUS 20 powered sub.

My USB and my Aux jacks still work and I have the kit to have the backup camera display on the HU. Just have not gotten around to installing it. I had to abandon the factory mic as I could not find a way to integrate it. All my steering wheel control work and I even have a Subaru emblem background pop up when the system boots.

I just installed a Pioneer AVH-8500

I just installed my stereo in my Forester 2014 using the following items

-Pioneer AVH8500 (amazon)
-Metra 95-8902 Double DIN (amazon)
-Metra 70-7552 harness (Bestbuy)
-Mircobypass (amazon)
-For the appradio mode (hdmi cable, USB to lightning, and hdmi lightning adaptor)

This is just my initial setup and I still plan to add steering wheel control and add Aux and USB input (ordered the necessary hanress from SVXdc).

-for those who installed an aftermarket radio, do you get this message when you start your car (please check audio system)

Thanks CT BOB. I don't have the steering wheel controls working yet, because I'm waiting for the necessary harness from SVXdc. But, from other people, it seems you can get it to work perfectly.

What specific car mic features do you mean? Your car mic features will likely depend on the aftermarket HU that will replace the OEM radio.

You just need to temporarily disconnect power, to reset your MFD (to make it forget it had ever seen your factory HU). You can do that by any of these methods:
  • Unplug the power harness from the MFD
  • Disconnect the fuse for that harness, #15 (I think that's on the fuse block inside the cabin, but don't yet have the full service manual. Can someone else confirm?)
  • Disconnect the negative terminal from your car's battery
If you don't want to open up the MFD (which really isn't that hard), I'd go with method "B", so you don't reset everything else in the car (such as your ECU).

You will need to modify the double din kit (Metra 95-8902)

To keep steering controls, USB and Aux, you will need to get the appropriate harnesses from Subaru radio and radio wiring harness information

The backup camera will be displayed on your MFD (upper screen). There is a way to re-route it to the aftermarket HU (you will need to contract SVXdc on same website Subaru radio and radio wiring harness information

see this post for details example of an after market install.

For what its worth I installed a Seicane unit in my 2011 and its a huge upgrade over the Pioneer Avic unit that came with the car. Screen and sound quality are fantastic. Boots super fast. Built in GPS but you can also use other Nav programs like Waze. Even the sound quality of Bluetooth calls is better. I don't think you can get a better value than this.

If you want you can spend more and get more processing speed and memory, and the latest version of Android, but these bit older models they are clearing out are perfectly fine for a car unit.
