The headlight, the parking light, none of it works...

Tried the earth lead, fiddled with lots stuff. Before I fiddled it was just the low beam not working, now none of it works.

It's not the globes, nor is it the headlight assembly. And it's not the fuse.

Any help would be appreciated...

The LH & RH front clearance lights share the same fuse & ground. If one works, both should work, unless the bulb or bulb socket is bad.

The LH & RH headlights have different +12V sources (fuses), but share the same ground.

Assuming the fuse is good, I'm leaning towards the LH headlight assembly, specially the bulb sockets. Have you checked for corrosion in the sockets?

Bobby...

Fuses are good... I'm not too worried about the clearance lights, though the left one is not working.

Bulbs have been in and out repeatedly, I've tried to look at the corrosion factor but these modern things are hard to check, so small, so deeply buried.

What aggravates me is that without both high and low beam on one side I wouldn't dare drive the car anywhere in the dark, I'd be 'detected' by the police and forced to have the car fixed at great cost. That means it can't be used on weekends, when I go away and always have to drive at night.

Is there some way of cleaning the contacts in there without asking for further trouble?

When I changed out a bulb on a newly replaced headlight on my 06, it didn't work. It wasnt the bulbs.. I ended up leaving the ground disconnected from the battery overnight, since I was still working on the car. The next day, the headlight worked fine.

I don't know why this worked, but it did.

Oz, Queensland me thinks from Googling.

While this only relates to the headlight bulb specifically have a look. Peel back the rubber covering the headlight bulb socket and inspect. In many cases these early sockets melt and cause bulbs to blow or not work. In my case the socket was brittle and cracked causing an intermittent headlight.

And some more information from bbottomley here http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/68958-post1.html don't let the title fool you there are other tidbits of troubleshooting that don't involve the fuse.

Yes, Queensland Australia...

I haven't been back to this because of my priority of getting ready for my trip to the US. I'm guessing this job will be one of my first when I get back in July.

I'm pretty sure the sockets look good, it's a couple of weeks since I looked at them.

Hello,

Forster 2007 SG.
I would like to mention about my issue in this exist post if you dont mind. Since ...I dont know :D I have a problem with headlight , only one side ( right ) , I mean front light and rear light as well is not working from the same side.
I checked the rear - bulb its okey because the stop light works.- so its fine.
- checked the fuses and relays and they are also fine.

I dont have any others electrical issue in this car.

Do you have any suggestion regarding to this issue. I would like to add that I am new owner and first time of Subaru :D

Welcome. The headlight and rear light are on different circuits, so that both have problems is a coincidence.

Rear light first. You said it had a problem, but also that the brake light works. What is the problem with the rear light?

Front light…. Have you removed the bulb to check the filament? Are both high and low beam not working?

I am so sorry for this misunderstanding. , I am talking about parking lights. I checked the low beams and full and they are working fine- all of them.
After work I am going to pull out the headlamp and check the bulb and socket as well in front.
So in this case I believe all right side ( parking lighs ) is on one circuit, right ?

Regarding rear , break light and park light is in the same bulb.
