Hi,

I just bought my 2004 FXT two weeks ago and it came with an aftermarket 3 or 4 inch cat back system. It sounds great, but I'm not really a muffler guy so my question is if I trade someone strait across for a oem new 2004 forester xt exhaust am I getting hosed or is the current exhaust worth considerably more than a stock exhaust? Any Advice of a good way to trade or how much this exhaust might be worth?

looks like a blitz nur spec R to me.

eh wait no it's not rounded enough on the muffler.. hmm VERY close though.. HKS, invidia, etc make this style but what reminded me of the spec R was the tip and resonator.. but then again, everyone makes something similar.
no markings on it whatsoever? on the tip? could very well be a generic 4"..

and this might help

Neoshi and Funkymonkey thanks for getting back to me. I got under there and polished it up last night and couldn't find any markings anywhere...I know that doesn't help. I'm trying to figure out how much I should be asking for it, and I'm also getting offers on from a couple different guys with 05 FXT Cat back exhausts who want to trade...any advice? One of the Stock exhausts I am told is new. Any advice on what to I should do? I don't want to give it away...

Here are recent pictures of it all cleaned up;

Looks like the axelback portion is a 3 bolt system, so you can't just swap on an stock STI or XT unit to quiet it down. Looks like you need the full catback. Is your downpipe stock or aftermarket?

From the pix, it does look like some nice quality pieces with smooth bends and good welds. I'd think you could trade it for stock plus a little cash.

Hey thanks sea-scooby! From what I can tell everything is stock from the engine to the cat (at the back of the cat the pipe is bolted with spring type washers w/ a little welding too) and you're right the lines are smooth and the welding is super clean from what I can tell.

Anyone know what would be a fair trade or how much cash to ask for?

Thanks!

Found it (I think). Vibrant TPV 3" cat-back. ~$540 new. Kudos to Chris for pointing out the 3 bolt axle back. That was the key. I'm so blind.

Here's a link showing it. Interestingly enough, it has a removeable silencer that the previous owner probably still has...

That said, IF this is really it, stockers go for like free to $150. Definitely +cash if you can.

Holy crap that totally is it! The welding looks the same and the bolts at the axel and pattern of the mount all look the same, also the two bolt section at the cat matches too. NICE WORK!!!

Next question...would I be better off finding a silencer, and kept my exhaust, and does this current set up add any performance to my car or is it all for sound?

You guys rule.

What other engine mods do you have? Bigger turbo? Looks like it'll bottleneck at the DP anyway being stock. Feels like the previous owner did this for sound purposes only. Should you go for performance mods, a large diameter exhaust such as this would benefit you. Stock exhaust won't cut it at Stage 2 and above (or even stock.. more free flowing exhaust can only help you turbo guys to free up those trapped ponies). If you can get the silencer (assuming it's not already installed), keep OR trade for another aftermarket exhaust that is quieter.

Cool thanks for the advice! You were a ton of help. It doesn't have any other modifications (except for a missing back cargo tray ;) ) Does the xt premium have a black cargo tray? My xt is auto with black leather and black carpet with black mats but doesn't have a cargo tray and all i can seem to find is grey cargo trays...any of you have an xt premium with a black cargo tray?

I'm assuming it doesn't have one, but just in case how do you tell if it has a silencer?

Still haven't had any offers or worthwhile trades... :/ Any ideas on getting rid of this thing? I really want the stock cat back system, with some cash or trade, but this far I've only had a couple people wanting to trade strait up for their stockers....

I know you're accepting offers and the price isn't written in stone, but a $500 list price might be scaring a few people away when you can get the same system brand-new for $539.

Man I thought someone would've picked that setup by now. I guess just keep at it. I could always just paint mine back to the stock grey if you'd still be interested? If not I understand. Once again GL on the sale. :Banane17:

Thats a Stainless system and would probably last the life of the car, why would you want to go back to a stock steel one that's going to rust out after a few years? If anything id just slap a stock muffler on and and keep the rest of the stainless piping.

Stainless Steel vs Steal

On top of it being to loud for my tastes it also is too flashy for my tastes. I definitely want the appearance of my car to be stock--ruling out the silencer approach. I appreciate the insight on the cargo tray thats what the dealership was saying (the robot woman helping me told me I didn't have a cabin filter so I took her word about the color options very lightly) I'll lower the price knowing what it goes for new at other places. Thanks for all your feedback on my posting peoples.
