Will 15" wheels fit - Wifes cancer, jostling causes her lots of pain

We are going to sell our Jeep cherokee and buy a 2019 Forester because the Jeep rides too rough. My wife has advanced liver cancer and our home is down 8 miles of rough forest road and the jostling causes her lots of pain.

The dealer said he has seen people take off the 17" or 18" wheels and put on 15" with a higher sidewall aspect ratio that will take up more shock. We are also hoping the new platform will help.

Can we do this - will the 15" wheel clear the rotors and calipers - any suggestions

Thanks

Info On Using 15" tires and wheels

I want to buy my first Forester and want to run 15" tires so they have a higher sidewall to cushion off road travel. What year Forester can I buy custom 15" rims that will work

Thanks for the response

@Riknkonnie We recently bought a Crosstrek because it is easier to get in and out of than a Forester. We tried at least twenty different vehicles for ease of access and Crosstrek was the easiest that also had features we wanted. Ours has 17" wheels and a fairly smooth ride. I'm not trying to sell you on Crosstrek; only to let your wife try both.

i know for sure people are fitting 15 inch in the '14-'18 2.5i. The XT have bigger brakes that won't clear. Also not all 15 inch will fit, only the Rally ones people have mentioned. IIRC the a method and sparco wheel will fit at 15 inches. If you wait a bit, maybe the same wheels will fit the '19?

Welcome to the forums.... Internet Fist Bump for your wife's health...
@fozroamer may be able to give you some insight.... He recently switched to 15" wheels on his...

I know most people would jaunt over to TireRack's website to explore the options, but the `19 Forester is just too new to not avoid picking up the phone and inquiring.

the 17 has higher sidewall.........than some low profile 18 or 19 tire ...... but it is the tire type and brand that will set up the softer ride,........ no run flat tires,............ no heavy off road , no severe snow service -usually tires ............... more flexible sidewall is that you want ..................my 2015 has soft ride, on 225/60R/17 and firestone FR710 tires , but the Bridgestone Blizzaks also have a fairly soft sidewall , it a design feature that is partially responsible for the snow traction from them

Method racing makes the race wheels for Subaru rally USA and america’s Rally cross... 501 and 502 in “vt spec” are Very light, very strong wheels that Murphy for under $200 each... are 15 inch wheels and I would think will likely clear any breaks that the ‘19 comes with... this would be my first suggestion and what I would try on mine.

I have researched this some. We are buying a touring for my wife soon. I have a 16 crosstrek with 15" team dynamics rims on it along with a 2" lift. I like it but really like the forester sport so ive been thinking on trading my crosstrek for one also. The 2019 forester standard and premium still have the 11.6 inch front rotors. Same as my crosstrek so the 15" rally rims will or should fit. But the sport, limited and touring have 12.4 inch front rotors. I think a 17 inch is the smallest that will fit these. Like the forester XT of the previous platform.
I like the 15's for the cheaper prices on tires also. Were definately getting the touring for my wife but i cant decide what to do for me now. Plus my crosstrek is desert kahki which i really like. If they made a forester sport in desert kahki it would be a done deal. But no special colors, oh well....

Rather than changing wheel sizes, a search of ratings and reviews on the Tire Rack website might lead you to a better riding alternative in the stock diameter. It is amazing how much variation there is between tires, even in the same size.
Also, if you are willing to accept the compromise in on road performance, disconnecting or removing the front and rear sway bars would certainly reduce sudden ride motions on a rough road.

My wife has a 2019 Forester Limited. It has the stock 18" alloy wheels with the factory Falken tires. Once I lowered the tire pressure to what was stated on the door pillar, the ride is quite smooth, even on rough roads. The thing was delivered with tire pressure way too high.

Maybe do another test drive, but take your tire gauge with you and adjust pressure down to what is recommended. It might be just what you need. It's worth a try and will save you a bunch of money and trouble if it works.
