I've owned several different vehicles over the years and have never understood why sunroofs were designed to open. I do occasionally enjoy the extra light from them, but have never felt the need for them to open. All of the associated hardware, electronics, motors and gaskets necessary to open and close, for me are wasted. They also create failure points. Most likely, never opening one that opens might also cause future problems. For me, I can either pass or wish they were just like a front windshield and couldn't open.
I used the open sunroof year-round. The Forester has one of the largest available.

My sunroof was a required option to get manual transmission.
Rarely use sunroof. Just a ploy to gouge more money.

Just bought 2025 forester sport (now 500 mi on it) . Thinking of seeing how much body shop would charge to delete sunroof. Hate them! I’d spend up to $2500 to get rid of it.

If I had a choice I would not have it, but it came with my trim. I open it, but rarely.

I open mine a lot. It was 40F the other day, which felt like a heat wave here in NY, and I had it open for the entire ride to work. :D
I love the additional air flow without as much noise as having the windows open. (Or at least is seems like less noise.)
I agree, it does seem less noisy, and having owned two convertibles previously, I love the open air! If Subaru made a rag-top, I'd buy it!

'25 Forester Grey - We purposely ordered a "Convenience" (base in Canada) trim specifically to avoid the sunroof. It appears to be the only trim without. We would also have been quite happy if there was an option to not have the roof rails - will never be used, in the way for washing/waxing, and the area at their bases looks to a place where pollen and dirt will accumulate and be trapped.

The sunroof interferes with my helmet when I'm on the track. :)

Seriously, the sunroof delete is now a performance option. The WRX TR and tS are sold without sunroof to reduce weight. All the go fast parts - 19 inch wheels, big brakes, active steering - add weight and so they delete the sunroof to bring the weight back down.

The helmet thing is real too. There are actually sunroof delete panels and complete carbon fiber roof replacements for some of the WRX's and STI's.

Sunroof, never open ... except at purchase time, to see if it works.

The moonroof is a night time thing: Like having the additional light from the moon & stars, when driving at night.
