Oil in spark plug tubes, how to clean it out?

I'm in the process of changing out my plugs and wires, and valve cover gaskets. There was a lot of oil in every tube. How should I clean the tubes out? I've yet to open up the actual valve covers, I will do that tomorrow. But I wanted to post and see if there is a good way to clean the oil out of the tubes? I know it isn't supposed to be in there, so it seems like I should clean it out before I put fresh plugs in there.

Thanks!

You need to not only replace the 2 valve covers but the 4 spark plug O-Rings and 10 sealing washers. To clean the tubes, I'd just wrap a cloth rag around a screwdriver and plung it in & out. Maybe use some carb cleaner on the rag. I don't like blowing out nasty stuff as it get all over and can be an issue if it get on or into you. Another comment; the screws holding the valve cover are shoulder bolts and require ONLY 3.6 foot pounds of torque. They will break if you overdo it. Trust me on this one. Just hand snug. Ed

I got a valve cover gasket "kit" from O'Reillys. It was about $30 and I think it has everything that I will need.

I already removed the plugs, so I will try cleaning the tubes out with some rags.

I'm concerned with the oil that is currently in there... is it dripping into some place where oil shouldn't be since my plugs are out?

I plan on taking care of this tonight, I just want to be sure not to mess anything up.

In addition to what others have said about keeping overspray from carb/brake cleaner off of you. Make sure you don't get any of it on your paint. Some of that stuff will permanently damage the clearcoat as well as the color coat.
