My oil change warning just cam on at 5,500 miles. The manual says 6K miles for the 2015. What's the deal?

I have a 300 mile trip coming up and I won't have time for an oil change till I get back. Can it wait?

Check the oil level immediately. I would not wait to get an oil change. All you have to do is search this forum for "oil consumption" and you'll see that some (not all) '14+ owners have problems excel oil consumption. A synthetic oil change is more expensive than what I'm used to but better safe than sorry in my book. How real is this problem? I can tell you that my neighbor up the street just had her entire engine replaced by the dealer due to excess oil consumption. It's an outback not a forester but still quite disturbing to hear.
