New to ECU Flashing - Need Advice !!!

I'd like to ECU Flash my 04 FXT.

Accessport looks great, but $650 ???

I see the Tatrix Openport 2.0 with ECUFlash s/w compatibility... much more reasonably priced, but see conflicting forum posts on whether it bricks more than Accessport.

Can you please answer these questions:

1. Does Tatrix Openport w/ ECUflash s/w use the same maps as Accessport (can I download the maps from Accessport website and flash them with Tatrix?)

2. Should I buy the Tatrix, try to find a used (cheaper) Accessport, or spend the big $$$ on a new Accessport? Why?

I've flashed routers, unbricked routers, etc, so I'm pretty handy with a computer and good instructions...

Thanks for your help!! Any more advice in this area is greatly welcomed!

many of us have used opensource successfully for years...

I've said it before and I will say it again, if you aren't well versed in engine tuning and dynamics, AP is your best option.

I personally don't like the UTEC interface, but thats probably because I'm used to the opensource tools.

if you have the set it and forget it mentality, go with the ap. If you are like me and are willing to dedicate DAYS of time into reading, tuning, and datalogging, then opensource is the way to go.

You could also pick up the cable. Then buy a Clark map. Which will be a great base map to learn from.

As I've said in the past, lets not forget that the AP2 is no longer a set it and forget it only option. Cobb gives you access tuner race along with their AP so you can create your own tunes with the AP2.

As much as I dislike AP, it does have it's place in the Suby aftermarket crowd. It offers map switching, w/o a laptop, a scantool for check engine lights, 0-60 and 1/4 mile estimates... all w/ a small, compact hand-held device. Romraider, Learning View (from Merchgod) and help from Airboy, you can get all the above. But you need a laptop, and some it is not as user-friendly as AP.
Now, AP offers Speed Density. Get rid of your MAF and just use your MAP sensor. Again, there is someone on Romraider working on speed density hack, but all of this is user-beware.
I personally bricked my 05 FXT ECU, I am working on a set up to force SH BOOT MODE, so I can reflash it w/ a base map and then sell it. Live and learn, Freon, finally explained that if you have an error, in the middle of reflashing, to NOT turn off your ignition, reboot your laptop and reflash the car again.
The problems start when you have an incomplete flash and you turn off your ignition. I wish I would have known that 4 months ago.
