Hey Yall,
So i have a 2003 Subaru Forester with 216,000 miles on it. My mom gave me the car in May and almost immediately after it needed a need clutch and a wheel barring replaced and it all ended up costing 1,400.

In June i had the bushings in my shifter come loose and fall out causing me another 600 in repairs.

Then 2 days ago i had my brake system lock up because my caliper locked and ruined the rotors, pads, and calipers in my front two wheels. Costing another 700. Now today i had the same issue happen where the brake system locked up. Turns out now it was rust in the hill hold that made the valve lock up. So thatll be another 350 in repairs.

How long can these cars go? It it worth it to keep fixing this car?

i appreciate any advice yall can offer. Thanks

Do you have maintenance records regarding timing belt replacement? You should be just starting out on belt #3 with that mileage, and the older the car gets the more important it is to replace all the associated mechanical components—water pump, tensioner, idlers.

I see this is your first forum post, so welcome to the forum from Oregon!

With that many miles, parts are going to wear out & need to be replaced. As Bruce noted above, the timing belt maintenance is critical, as the engine is interference fit. Loose the timing belt & it could cost you as much as your '03 is worth to repair the damage! :icon_eek:

You can view your Subaru recommended maintenance schedule here on cars101.com.
