Anyone heard this before, Ive recently changed the fluid in the diff and trans. The whining was there before and it didnt go away. Happens on acceleration and deceleration. Pitch increases as speed goes higher. Also happens when out of get and in neutral. Everything else is smooth, no binding on slow turns just the really loud noise.

My 04 FXT recently started making this noise during a road trip. Same noise and everything shifts smooth with no binds. When the dealer drained the transmission fluid it was half silver. I'm scared to find out how bad it is since I've only had the car for 4 months but it sounds like the 6spd swap is coming early.

Yea when i replaced my fluid I didnt have that much metal flakes in the oil. After replacing the fluid the tranmission is still smooth, shifts well, no bucking or jerking. Just the loud whine which ive come to believe is bearing noise. Either input shaft or the differential pinion bearing. Im still trying to find a shop that will put my car on a lift to pinpoint where the bad bearing is, in the trans.

Does you car still shift well after your fluid has been changed?

I've honestly been scared to drive it since. Been saving the miles so I can drive it to a shop for the swap.Only happened a couple of days ago and I have a second car and motorcycle. My noise got progressively louder over 100 miles on the road trip and started to get louder at slower speeds, 10-30mph. I wonder if the noise could be independent of the metal in the fluid? I bought it from a Subaru dealer so I would like to think they would have noticed that in the safety check.

Kind of sounds like what mine is doing right now. I've got a thread about it, but it hasn't yielded the helpful responses I'm looking for. I'd like to know if or how to diagnose what bearings may be the problem bearings

From what ive been told you need to get the car on a rack where the wheels can spin freely. Run the car at a specific speed in gear and have someone listen to the transmission at different points...the front, rear and sides and try and listen for where the bearing noise is coming from. I will be at a friends shop on saturday morning trying to diagnose.
