Fuel Economy

Got an XT and Im around 12-13l/100km but it gets a bit worse at time.
I have been under 10 for some highway driving.

Measure how much fuel you put it, dont go off the markers.

And run it more than half empty so that any differences between how full it was at the start and end are reduced compared to how much you used.

If you are worried, its probably best to track your fuel usage over a few tanks.
Up to 15l/100km is pretty easy to do.

Probably squat to do with the ecu and more to do with your right foot.
It can be hard to judge just how much you are pushing when you do and it can make a big difference. Air temp can also make a diff - higher temps means less power and you might be using more throttle to make up for that.

Edit - do you know the hardest I have ever driven it ? On that mini cruise you organised. I never drive anywhere near that hard on a regular basis. That is my concern with my car. Something is not right
Id say that was an average drive for me. Certainly didnt push it at the traffic lights as much as I normally do.
And I get around 13l/100km

But the engines do take a while to settle in, they often use oil and get bad fuel consumption for a little while.

You might also need to change your options in the User CP
Go to User CP, then select Edit Options (on the left)
Go all the way to the bottom and under Message Editor Interface you need to select Standard Editor (not Basic Editor)

Might also set your timezone while you are there. Although the "auto DST" will probably not be correct for some of us as we have an extra week of daylight savings this year.
Probably want to check your Thread Subscription is turned off.

cruisin at 115 kph.
<pedantic engineer> Its km/h not kph </pedantic engineer>

Yes thats a pet peeve of mine.
Not sure what a "p" is, but kph swapped it out in place of the important units "m".
I guess I could accept km.h^-1.

Now am I the only one waiting for speed limits to be given in m/s??

Sir you were doing 21m/s in a 16m/s zone...
It would also make those tv ads easier
"If your car is travelling at 25m/s then you travel 25 metres every seconds"

Certainly acceleration should be m.s^-2
Although its not silly to use km/h/s
ie if the car does 0-100km/h in 5 seconds then thats 20km/h/s

How far does it take a car to stop from 100km/h?
Well assume it can pull 0.8g = 0.8x9.8m/s^2 = 7.8m/s^2
100km/h = 27.8m/s
distance under acceleration is
s = ut - 1/2at^2 (- because the accel is negative)
in this case t (time) = u/a
t = u/a
s = u^2/a - 1/2 a (u^2/a^2)
= 1/2 u^2/a
= 49.5m

that sounds about right (just a little high, more like 45m, under estimated braking force slightly)

Working in m/s and m/s^2 is much easier. Also knowing that a car can do around 0.8-0.9G braking is useful (a good car will do more)

I find it handy to work out some quick figures for things.

It should be on the little print out.
My nissan did 0.95 average with a peak of something like 1.1

The forester pulled around 0.9 for a while in doing a stop from 100km/h measured on the Gtech. 100-0 was 44.2m 120-0 was 66.4m
Yes 50% longer stopping distance for only 20km/h more speed.

Just did a run to the Snowy Mtns
Got around 10-11 for the highway bits (with a small amount of "other stuff")
and a peak of 14.5 for some tough offroad mixed with some spirited twisties (the Alpine Way)
So very pleased with those sorts of numbers.
