here is my original thread explaining my current situation:

http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f87/blew-my-motor-time-questions-77333/

here are some progress pics of the swap. i blew my original motor at around 131k miles. had been running an 18G turbo for 31k miles at around 17 pounds of boost. the new motor going in is a rebuilt sti long block, semi-built. specs:

ej257 longblock
usdm sti heads
usdm sti forged crank and rods
cp forged pistons and rings, 8.5:1 compression ratio
ACL race rod and main bearings
arp headstuds

we hope to have the motor installed by tuesday.

yes, i believe stock sti is 8.1:1 and wrx/forester is 8.4:1 so it is a very small increase from my last motor. i got a screaming deal on the engine. built by rob's machine shop in northern california.

So excuse me if I'm being a little ignorant here... Why not go built short block and keep ur heads so you don't have to swap the wiring harness? Does the STI run seq valve timing also like the FXT does?

the engine i bought didnt even come with a harness. i swapped over my top feed TGVs and fuel rails and my entire stock harness. i got a screaming deal on this engine.

and a little update...pics will follow, but last night, after a few weeks of hard work, we finally turned the key, and it started up on the very first crank. hopefully getting tuned tomorrow!

the swap is finally complete. my car is currently tuned (open source) for a very healthy 23 psi on my 18G turbo and the car pulls like mad. here are some decent pictures from this afternoon:
