Yes, that’s the problem with alligator clips…
Lesson learnt. In hindsight, I could have also gotten this ODBII Battery Maintainer Connector to be clipped on inside the car and out of the way. This connector can also be used with my battery charger.

Or I could've put the alligator clips on this that is already installed to the terminals.

I was going to upgrade my battery but 35 is sold out everywhere local and I am not keen on buying a battery online in case I need to use the warranty.
So weird thing is my local dealer has an OEM and will install it for a total of 143 which is great price but checking online the OEM battery has been discontinued yet I am not
sure for how long. The tech said it's fresh.

From what I read on here panasonic was the OEM maker and they generally make good stuff.

yes there should be a made by date and I will certainly check this but can't beforehand. This dealer has been awesome, can't see them selling me an old junk battery.
I can't find this OEM for sale anywhere online though which is strange, maybe it's just an insider dealer thing.

I was going to buy the deka AGM, the bosch was out of stock and when it came back into stock it was 20 bucks more.
deka by east penn is an awesome battery made in the USA but as I don't have a local dealer if I needed warranty I am SOL.
BTW bosch is made by clarios [former johnson controls]
AGM last twice as long but they are better for deep cycle applications rather than constant starts.

Odd about the bosch posts as it should follow OEM spec.

How long are the OEM batteries lasting in 2019+ Foresters?
I've had this car just over 4 years, still on the original battery. Still tests good, no problems starting, so no reason to replace it yet.
When I searched for a battery on Costco's app, it doesn't even list the Forester. Not sure if my local Costco even sells group 35 AGM, just standard type.

Thanks for posting this. I too have the extended warranty for my '21 Forester as well, and will have to keep this in mind if my battery ever needs replacing. Good that you got this for free. My local dealer quoted $353 for the SOA821B900 battery that is in your photo. Plus another $50 for other needed parts ... correct sized pan, cover, etc. as the 900 battery is a different physical size than the Q85 one that came from the factory.

@Bayou,
Not that I recall, although it's possible it got lost in with all the other junk mail we get. I found out about the class action lawsuit reading these forums.
I bought an extended warranty when I got the car, but I thought the extended warranty for the battery applies to everyone.

It looks like I can go to the website and “apply” for the extended warranty, but you don’t qualify until your battery completely fails…so you need to be inconvenienced to get the warranty.

Not at all true. Call the number, tell them what's going on and they will give you a referral number to take to your dealer. The dealer then test the battery and makes the final determination. The metronics tester indicated that the battery was failing and they replaced it. Easy peasy.
