225/55/16 rubbing?

Recently replaced the OE tires with falken 912 in 225/55/16. Im running a 20mm STI rear say bar with KB end links. i made this decision after reading a car and driver test of the stock vehicle and then where they added the larger tires, a set of cobb bars and accessport.

i read on this forum about some people saying that a 225/55/16 mounted on the OE 06 XT rims results in some rubbing against the rear struts. But that the rubbing took place only during very hard driving. i dont remember if this using the OE susp or not though. After reading this i went and checked my clearances. Up front im fine but in back ive got a index fingers width or 3/8s to a 1/2" clearance.

I noticed that falken has a warning on the sidewall of the 225/55/16s tire saying do not mount on a 16x 6.5" wheel. So my first question is am running 6.5" wide wheels or am i running 7" wide rims?

My main concern is that i dont want to hurt the car as much as i love the new tires. According to falken i have 30 days to access the tires perfomance at which time i could return the tires or maybe in this case exchange the 225/55/16s for a set of 912 215/55/16s. I dont want to do this because i love the 225s.

Thanks alot for your help with this..

^^ I believe the OEM wheels are 16x6.5", the steel wheels on MY03 were. I'm running 225/55-16 on 16x7" rims with +42 offset.
If the tires say not to put on 6.5" rims, I'd go by that. They'd probably work, but may not lay flat on the pavement.

I just put 225/60/16 snow tires on my inlaws 03 Forester using the stock wheels. Not even close to rubbing anything and a 225/60 is bigger than a 225/55.

The warning on the side of nearly all 16" tires say "do not mount on a 16.5" rim".

I think I may be the one who started the tire rubbing rumor. The last time the rear wheels were off my car, I could see what looked like evidence of rubbing on the strut. There is some clearance between the tire and the strut when the car is in the air and on the ground. I can't say with any certainty that there is rubbing or not, but if there is, it is probably only during extreme cornering. What I'm seeing just looks like a dirty strut, with a clean spot right behind where the tire goes.

I'm also running 225/55/16 on stock wheel (Bridgstone Potenza 960) and have had no rubbing at all. I've pushed the car pretty hard and still nothing.
If you are rubbing, you can always try a spacer if you want to keep the tires.
