Got a day or so to add this on….bought a new 2024 sport this evening.

Anyone familiar with something like this?

The Select Protection Plan for $900 gives:

tire and wheel protection (replace limit one tire) on original tires only
Alloy Wheel cosmetic repair (if>1/8”)
Paintless dent repair (4” diameter or less)
Windshield repair (fill only)
Key fob loss protection (one fob limit)

Thanks!

What is the term? Is there a deductible?

If you really damage a tire on a Subaru you’ll typically need to replace all 4 at the same time. Coverage for one tire only may be limiting. This reads a bit as, “We’ll replace the one, but you need to buy 3 more to match.” If you were to replace one tire and need to replace all 4 anyway, consider the warranty you would get from a reputable tire shop like Costco, Discount Tire, etc. Even if you were able to replace one tire, the cost would be around $150.

Do you find that you often run into curbs and drive over medians? If so, alloy coverage may be do you. 😉

Paintless dent repair for a single spot less than 4” is going to cost you less than $100 at a shop. And then it depends if the spot is in a place where the damage can be repaired through a paintless process. Does this cover a single spot and a single event, or will this cover the whole vehicle in the case of hail damage? I would guess 4” diameter is like getting a moderate impact from a golf ball (1.68” diameter).

Does your insurance policy cover glass? What is that cost monthly/annually? If so, is it included or an add-on? Is there a deductible? Will it include the calibration of the EyeSight? I have glass coverage for less than $3/month. If I replace one windshield - and I will this spring - I’m still ahead, even after 5 years, when comparing costs.

Key fobs are quite expensive. How may have you lost in the past? Is this a concern for you? You could mitigate this cost by using a $20 Apple AirTag (or similar). Even if you do lose a fob, replacement is going to be about half of that $900 plan. Fobs aren’t that expensive, but the cost for programming is what gives you the headache.

Warranties are typically divisive with regard to people’s opinions. The next post may very well disagree with me or offer differing points to consider. There are TONS of warranty threads on the forum that may help you with additional insight.

YMMV. You’ll need to estimate your own risk/benefit for that coverage. Warranties are a complete “what if” game. Would any of these items have benefited you in the years you’ve had your 2020?

The glass repair may be covered by your insurance, depending on the company and deductible.
The wheel repair is cosmetic (scratches, etc. I'm thinking). Any real damage from a low profile tire, like bends and breaks, are probably not covered.
Figure the odds you'll need the rest of it.
For me, I'd pass after I got done laughing at them.
