Hey all! My 2024 just rolled into the lot and my dealer asked if I wanted to get financing started before I came in to pick it up next week. Fast forward, they send me the breakdown and they have added 'Lojack' and 'Interior/Exterior Protection 1 Year' to the price.

Anyone know if those are worth it at all? The lojack price seems very reasonable when looking at the current market, but is it worth it? Also this 1 Year Protection cost?

Wanted to check with the experts here before replying back to the dealer.

Thanks!

Just took delivery* of a 2024 Wilderness in Magnetite Gray with OP22, Auto Dimming Mirrors, Splash Guards, RS protector, and a couple of other nominal accessories. MSRP was $39,306. Dealer offered $36,400 with free tinting. Used a loyalty coupon to hit $35,900 and did the 36 months at 4.9%. I think there was at least another $750-$1000 for the dealer to move there, but I am happy with the deal I got.

*I did not order it, it was in-transit to the dealer already.

Just took delivery of my fourth Subaru - 2024 Forester Premium, Cascade Green Silica. Took advantage of the ASPCA promotion and contributed $25 a month for six months which enabled me to buy at invoice which was $2,250 below MSRP. Ultimately not that much of a savings since the Houston area dealers are already discounting 2024 models for $1,500 or more. Anyway, was happy with my deal.

Only thing I was unhappy about was SOA declining my ask for a $500 loyalty coupon. You would think my loyalty to Subaru would have warranted one.

Previously owned three other Subi’s - 2011 & 2019 Forester Premium and 2016 Outback Limited.

Hi I have been looking for my first Subaru Forester wilderness. I like the 2023-2024 due to the still smaller screen. I have reached out to my local dealers and my best OTD have been 37-38K with Taxes/MV fees and Dealer Processing fees. Most 2023 discounted about 2800 from MSRP. I do not have VIP loyalty. I know I am at year end but seems dealers hanging onto every $$ for last minute purchases. Sorry, I never considered a Subaru die hard Jeep Girl (I still am) the Forester will be my daily and other type of outdoor adventures. Any advice I appreciate. I am in DC- VA- MD area

Trading in our 2010 Outback Limited 2.5i, with nearly 137,000 miles, towards a 2024 Forester Touring in Cascade Green with saddle brown leather. Here's the backstory and pricing.

Last Saturday, I accompanied our younger daughter to the Subaru dealership to help her get her new Ascent Onyx Edition. I drove our 2010 Outback (my wife drives our 2019 Outback Limited 2.5i). While dealing with the new Ascent, I tasked the sales manager, who as a newish sales person had sold us the 2010 Outback back in 2009, if the service department could look at some concerning issues with the 2010. Unhappily, but also unsurprisingly, I subsequently was told that it would cost several thousand dollars to repair everything that's in need of repair. While my wife and I had been thinking of replacing the 2010 Outback this coming spring, the cost of the repairs and prospect of winter led us to decide to act sooner.

We chose the Forester because, still having an Outback, we wanted something smaller for our second car. Also, our older daughter has been very happy with her 2021 Forester Premium, purchased from the same dealer. Although I initial focused on, and think I would have been quite happy with, the Sport, we ended up with a Touring because of things like the memory driver's seat feature, power passenger seat, and dual zone a/c. We decided on Cascade Green and saddle brown leather both because we the colors in combination appeal and because my wife has grown bored with white, the color of both our 2010 and 2019 Outbacks.

Long story short, the dealership offered us $4,000 for our Outback, which both Kelley and Edmunds indicate is a fair to generous amount. The sales manager located and is selling us a Touring in the colors we want with all the accessories we want and only one that we wouldn't have chosen (license plate brackets). MSRP is $40,095, to which is added $690 for the remote starter (we're in Massachusetts), for a total msrp of $40,785. As near as I can make out, invoice is about $37,600. Our price (before the trade) is $37,637. Subtracting the trade, adding in tax and fees, and subtracting a $750 loyalty coupon from Subaru brings our out-of-pocket cost to $35,912. for $3,012.

Along the way, we've also owned some Legacies and Imprezas. Before the 2010 Outback, we drove Toyota Camry wagons.

Sharing details of my new purchase, hope it aids others in your pursuits of your best deal:
  • 2024 Forester Limited in Green Cascade Silica without the optional package (sound upgrade, nav, heated stirring), but did have all weather mats, gratis
  • $31770 (this was price advertised, 3500 below MSRP)
  • $1K loyalty coupon
  • Traded in 2015 Subaru Outback Limited that was loaded for 8,500 with 118K miles. This was lower than I wanted, but I had some issues, so I took the best offer I could conveniently get (I was quoted $6K to address spark plug valve sealant was leaking oil causing misfires, crank shaft carrier was leaking oil also due to sealant issues, and engine coolant crossover pipe needed to be replaced).
So deal looked like:
  • $31770 car price, $649 document fee,
  • Discounted $8500 for trade-in, $1000 off for SOA loyalty coupon
  • ~$1440 taxes
  • Total OTD after trade-in was $24300
How I paid for it:
  • Maxed amount on credit card $2500 (4% cash back, immediately pay down)
  • 21845 remaining financed at 2.9% for 48 months; Have this cash sitting in high yield savings account making 4.6%+.

Reflection:
I feel good, I'd like to have gotten a hitch thrown in for it to have been a perfect deal, but I was happy with how it turned out. I didn't feel like I could negotiate on the advertised $31770. I actually thought destination fee might be on top of this price, but it was included. Biggest opportunity to haggle was on the trade-in, my car on aggregators like cargurus, carvana, cars, autotrade, iseecars with same trim + miles was going for ~$14K from dealers. I think it was possible to get private sale around $12K, but I also felt I would need to invest about $1500 to do so. Even though I got a trade value of 8500, it reduced my tax liability by about $500, so I viewed the value of the trade-in to be $9K. When I estimated my time and effort to repair and sell privately the car, I saw my minimum investment being around $1500, so I may have left ~$1.5K on the table, but it feels close to breakeven between trade-in and effort to do a private sale.

Just purchased a 2024 Forester Sport in Ice Silver Metallic with package 24, all weather mats, cargo net, auto dimming mirror with compass and HomeLink and the LED bulb upgrade.
MSRP = $35,522
Discount = $3,972
Admin fee = $499
Total out the door price = $32,049

Was able to get the 2.9% for 72 months which is a great rate for today. I'm sure others have done better but I didn't think it was a horrible deal. This was in the St. Louis, MO area.

I see others have mentioned discounts that they've gotten. Have you been able to get any more money off of the car along with the discount?

Meaning .. if they're advertising the car with a $1000 discount, is that all you were able to get out of them? Or were you able to negotiate the price even lower?

We spoke with one dealer who had a discount of just over $2000. They weren't willing to go any lower.
Another dealer listed "available discount" of $2500. Sure enough the key word was "available". You could get that discount only if you were trading in a car. Then they had criteria for what they considered a worthy trade in.

Since we were not trading in the lowest he claimed he could go was $1000 off the sticker. That's not a bad price. Just not a great one. Anyone have any thoughts on that price?

I have a relative who is interested in my car. (14 impreza) When we were at one dealer, out of curiousity, we asked what they'd give for the car. He didn't even look it. Said that in spite of the very low mileage, they'd just send the car to auction. I was surprised by that. The car is in excellent condition and has very low mileage. It would be an easy sale for them.

Hi Forester Forums, just got the following pricing breakdown for a 2024 Forester Base (HBP):

Image

  1. Is this a good OTD pricing, or should I even ask for more discount with the 2025 models set to arrive soon (dealer said June/July)? This includes Costco pricing discount (+$500 above dealer invoice of $27091).
  2. Is the price for dealer options (tint, door guards, & fixed crossbar) worth the cost ($579), or can I get those much less 3rd party? I was possibly looking into the OP02 package (allow wheels & roof rails), but that's only available on a direct-from-factory build. How does the fixed crossbar set (capacity 150lbs) compare with other manufacturers?
  3. Any functional differences between stock steel wheels & OP02 alloy wheels, ie. with weight, handling, quality? Or is the difference mostly/purely cosmetic? I read that steel wheels are heavier, which may affect mileage/unsprung weight, but cheaper to replace, however I can't see how alloy wheels part of $625 OP02 pkg could be much lighter.
Thank you.

Howdy folks,

Newbie here, although not new to Subaru. I had a 2017 WRX, owned it since new and sold it about 2 years ago. I then shared a car with my fiance for awhile since we both worked from home, but with her going back to the office full time now, the time came for me to get a car of my own once again.

I recently (yesterday, actually!) purchased a CPO 2024 Forester Touring with 6K on the odometer for $32.7K not including taxes/fees. Originally I was looking at older current-gen Foresters, pre-facelift 2019-2021 models. My two "must haves" were leather interior and the upgraded HK audio system, since I knew from my experience in the WRX that the standard sound system in any Subaru is atrocious. That limited (no pun intended) my trim options to Limited (which I'd have to check to see if it also had the upgrade package) or Touring. I spent the last 3-4 months or so looking at listings on a regular basis. Generally speaking, I was seeing prices of around $27-29K for a Limited (+upgrade)/Touring model, with miles ranging from 30-50K.

I came across the 2024 Touring that I eventually bought and to me it seemed like the additional cost was worth it. Essentially another $4K give or take on top of what I would have spent for an older model, but with significantly fewer miles and longer warranty period remaining. At one point I thought about just buying a brand new one but there is almost zero inventory near me. The one Touring that I could find had an MSRP of $40K and I doubt I would have been able to negotiate it anywhere close to $32.7, and it would have only come with the standard 5 year/60K powertrain warranty vs. the 7 year/100K that I got. 6K miles is basically a brand new car to me and I am pretty satisfied with my purchase. I also got the exact color that I wanted (CWP) which I'm happy about as it seems like the white ones get snatched up pretty quickly.

Also, with the 2025s starting to arrive on dealer lots, I did not want to gamble too much by waiting longer to try to squeeze out a better deal vs. missing out on the current gen altogether. I am not a fan of the 2025 model and I know a lot of Subaru fans feel the same way. In typical fashion, Memorial Day Weekend seems to have been a good weekend for car sales. I saved 8 used Foresters last week and 4 of them were sold over the weekend.

2024 new Wilderness with options 22 and wilderness package. MSRP: $39, 668 Dealer's price $35,111. Taxes and fees on top of that brings me to 39K and some change. Very few wilderness trims in the SE. They seem to be selling fast. No one has any 2025s yet, all coming next week. Happy with my new vehicle, the price, and not having to wait. And yeah, that hood sticker is coming off. :)

Please stop listing Taxes and fee's everybody. , there are hundreds of variations and it just complicates trying to figure out what Discounts people are receiving. Used cars should also not be mentioned either as each one is a unique situation, even if it's a CPO. Responses should only be 3 sentences long at most to help those trying to compare.

Times sure have changed since Corona. When I researched our 2019 Sport there were long threads of prices paid for both Outbacks and Foresters. The bottom line is Invoice cost. There are several places that list MSRP/Invoice for all trims and accessories. You should be shooting for below Invoice not MSRP. Out the Door price is useless for comparison. Sales tax can vary by 10% depending in your state/county. The only way to do comparisons is line item MSRP versus Invoice for trim level, factory packages and accessories added. Leave out all dealer pack, add-on's and doc fees.
Use the factory window sticker for reference. Any printed out listings the dealer uses is meant to look official but is pure sales BS.

I admit I have not hard priced any Forester's since 2021. Things have changed. Corona, supply shortages and interest rates all have warped pricing. I might get blown out of the water but I would go in with the extensive thread knowledge from 2019. $500 under invoice is a deal. $1000 under is a good deal. $1500 under is a great deal. $2000 is a monster. Disclaimer I've never been able to get the monster deal.😁 Also get Gold plan 10yr/100k miles/$0 ded under $2k. As always YMMV.

As of a few days ago none of the four St. Louis area dealers were showing any FWs either on the lot or in transit. My dealer now has two, their sister dealer has five, the other two have seven and five each in transit. None have window stickers available which generally means they're still on the boat.

The funny thing is, all 19 of these cars at all four dealers have the same MSRP - $39280.

UPDATE - Finding more FWs in transit to Marion, Springfield and Peoria IL, all $39280.

I looked at Bloomington, Champaign and a couple of Chicago area dealers and they all have FWs in transit at a slightly different price than downstate or in STL, but all the cars in Bloomington, Champaign and Chicago were priced and equipped the same.
