Vehicle Details:
2023 Forester Sport
I will be receiving my '23 Forester Sport in the next 2 weeks. The dealer has Permaplate Rustguard and Soundguard option available and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with these and whether they are worth it. I'm in northcentral Wisconsin, so they salt and spray the roads. Also, could this have some long lasting affect on the vehicle? Someone on Reddit commented that it damages the vehicle. It was a different, but similar product. They didn't elaborate. Any thoughts or experiences appreciated.

If you want to pay over a grand for what is basically getting your car waxed, go for the Permaplate.
It's a ridiculously overpriced car wax job and interior sprayed with an off the shelf fabric protector.

If you want your paint to last, check out a ceramic coating application from a car detailer.

Most rust problems are on the underside of the car, so applying car wax isn't going to help.
If you are concerned about salt rust, the best thing to do is wash the undercarriage frequently.

I've never heard of Soundguard, and doing a web search comes up empty.
It sounds like a dealer gimmick primarily designed to help you by lightening your wallet.

Add-ons like these are typically just dealer moneymakers without adding much value.
While these two options sound like total rip-offs, most other dealer installed options might sound interesting, but you can buy anything the dealer can supply at a substantial discount at an online retailer.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm beginning to realize this may just be an overpriced gimmick. I guess I'm just partially paranoid since I've owned 2 Toyotas with over 200K and the engines were strong, but rust killed the body and frame.

I may just take the money saved and invest it instead in the local Tommy's Express car wash. Was planning that anyway.

Everyone here is sharing the same option I have in this stuff. All it is is a $$$ maker for the dealership. If you want rust protection, you are better off getting something like Krown Rust Control that is applied yearly. I use it on all our cars. If you can put up with a few holes drilled in you new car for the application process..they are plugged with caps cover with a unit rust waxy substance. Stay away from the dealer crap like the plague…run Forest run…
