I got a check engine light and had my 22 Forester Sport checked out an my local mechanic.
They found the oxygen sensor was at fault so they replaced it with a 3rd party unit. When I drove the car home, the check engine light went on again and they looked up the codes and found the oxygen sensor was out again and replaced it with another 3rd party o2 sensor. Everything was ok when I took the Forester home the second time but eventually the check engine light went back on. Mechanic checked other wiring and possible issues.
This time, the mechanic said he was going to order an OEM part and called subaru. My mechanic talked to the Subaru service/parts and said that 3rd party o2 sensors seem to not work well with my Forester and it was recommended to use the OEM subaru brand. The problem is the OEM o2 sensor is on back order for about a month under subaru.
My mechanic has serviced my Subarus for over a decade (2011 Forester, 2011 WRX, and 22 Forester).
Any thoughts? I can't wait a month. Thanks.
