So i found this forum after I got my work car which will be in my possession until it hits 70k miles. I have the 6.5", non HK 6 speaker system Touring trim....The next car I can order with the upgraded package, which I liked on a rental car (i know some didnt care for the HK package) but for now I am stuck. I am in the car a lot and am a bit of a music junkie. The stock system isnt as bad as my first car I ever owned (97 Cavalier) but its not the best I ever owned either...

After some searching it sounds like the RF front door speaker upgrade might be the only thing that makes sense and doesnt put me out a ton of money.

Just putting it out there and wondering what yall think.

Thanks,
Andrew

Not really sure what your next step should be but I have the HK speakers on my 2020 sport and I absolutely love it. Tbh one of the reasons I picked my car because of the upgrade 😃

I replaced tweeters and all door speakers with the Kicker speakers designed for the car. (I have a 2017 Limited.) Same head unit (non-HK). I'm sure there are better options for more $$, but I'm happy with the results, and I'm a musician. Better stereo imaging, cleaner sound (no audible distortion), better frequency response and dynamic range. Speakers are usually the weak link in any audio system. No matter what you choose to do, please swap out the mediocre OEM ones Subaru installs. Also, use AHA or Pandora rather than FM when you have the option for better quality sound.

Did you replace the speakers yourself, and if so, did you have to remove the entire door panel or were you able to just loosen a few clips on the bottom half of the door panel to gain access?

Alright, so I just got done listening to about 15 minutes of music of varying genres with the new setup and its (Chris Farley voice) "awesomeeeeee"

Is it as good as building a full aftermarket setup, no.
Is it as good as the hifi setup your dad left you with vacuum tubes in the amps, no
Is it as good as the HK package, no.

BUT, if you have to augment a stock system for under $500, this setup BANGS..I had it up to 25 messed with some settings and it was loud, crisp with no distortion. Took me a total of 3hrs to do the dash tweeters and the RF setup. Everything was easy to do via the directions.

So again for what I needed and could do with this car, this is going to fill the void until the next company car where I can order the packages.

Appreciate the input from the forum.

The RF upgrade is worth every penny, can be found for around 300 and makes the system almost as good as the Harman kardon. Easy self install. You cannot install other aftermarket speakers 3 1/2 up front and even 6 1/2 in the rear doors and get a high quality sound in my opinion the Rockford amp is tuned for the stock speakers and there 6*9 that are in the kit and make it sound as good as possible with those so save the money and hassle. I needed a little bit more myself even with the CV sparetire subwoofer I wanted a little more volume and a little better quality so I did additional upgrades and ended up bypassing the Rockford amp and removing the Rockford 6*9 anyway. The infinity kappa 3-way setup I have with spare tire subwoofer is light years better than the Harman kardon setup that you can get with the car, and I spent much less $. If you have any specific questions I'm sure I could give some good answers, just let me know.

Nice job! The RF system really is a well designed system and is worth every penny. I have a full aftermarket system. Lots of money and even more time! If you want a subwoofer, check out the Cerwin Vega spare tire setup that Stumblinh installed. I am impressed. Another simple solution at a reasonable price that can be installed in just a few hours.

Now that I know the answer, and I thought that was the answer, but still wasn't sure lol. Thanks. I am ok with my non RF audio, so is the RF better than the HK (Harmon Kardon) audio?
