I have not found any questions here on updating maps in the 2018 Forester with Nav. The latest download I can find says it is from Q4 2020. Has Subaru stopped updating maps on this legacy unit? Finding info on this online is insanity inducing. My map often shows me driving across open countryside now, it's so out of date.

They're quite slow with updates. Maybe one a year that I've experienced.

Mine's a 2017, though, so I don't if anything may be different on the 2018 Nav head unit.

I just pulled the microSD card from my head unit to check the version number. There's a 2021/2022 update available.

Start by going here:

Select your model and year. Select the "Downloadable Update" and then download the "Subaru Map Update Download Tool". Install it. Let it update. You'll need a microSD reader of some sort connected to your computer. Insert the microSD card and let the app do its thing. It will tell you if an update is available.

If you don't have a subscription, you'll have to get one, or do a single map purchase. You can also choose to purchase a microSD card from them. They ship it to you and all you have to do is swap out the card that's in your head unit. It's more expensive than the download, though.

I appreciate your reply. I will look into this from scratch later, but I think I have already found what you referenced. It does say, under the North America map, "Latest release: ed. 2021/2022," but then when I click "Read more and buy," it describes it as "Released 2020 Q4." It says the same under Americas and World. I have approached this several ways, and I either reach a dead-end, or I get back to this information.

So, with the current update, this is what shows up. I forget exactly what menu choice I made to find this. I think it was under "Licenses".

As I said above, they're kind of slow. From what I remember, the 2019 Q4 update wasn't actually available until 2020 Q2. I tried to update my NAV a couple of months ago, and this latest update wasn't available yet.

My 2018 Forester XT Touring gets lost now days. The map seems to be outdated. In the greater New York City area, there are new exits, constructions and street names. So I decided to upgrade. The program that I was referred to did not work. The Subaru rep directed me to a website that worked. However, the file that I downloaded is the same my car came with, three years ago. What am i doing wrong?
