I'm in CNY and have Goodyear WeatherReady's on my '19 Forester. Two winters and no problem. Also like the Firestone Weathergrip's on my wife's Jeep. Both are All Weather-Tires; better in snow than All-Season's and less expensive than the Crossclimates. I've also heard good things about the General AltiMAX RT 43's which is an All-Season tire but supposed to be good in snow too and even less expensive than the Goodyear & Firestone tires I mentioned.

Got my tires at Dunn Tires. Love their out-the-door pricing which includes a road hazard warranty. Just replaced a blown tire (hit something in the road) on the Jeep. No cost for the tire, just paid balancing.

I have a 2016. I replace the original Yokohamas with Michelin CrossClimate2s and couldn't believe the difference. Like night and day. I also need good winter performance as I live in New England and these have not disappointed. Pricey but well worth it. I just hope I will get decent mileage out of them. I do notice a slight decrease in MPG. My second choice was the Continental TrueContact Tour but I bit the bullet. It's really not all hype as I had worried. It lives up to it.

Michelin. Defenders are very good but not the best in snow. We have the crossclimate2 and love them in snow. They are quiet so far after a few thousand miles.

I have Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady tires on my Toyota Rav4, and will be putting them on my wife's Forester when she needs tires. Never even have to think about tires in winter weather while in the Toyota, but when I'm in the Subaru with Continental tires, I just feel like there's a bit of slippage sometime.

All, I am looking for 4 replacement tires for my 2017 Forester that I plan on keeping a while. I live in upstate NY, so the winter driving is important for me (I've lived there a while and I don't want to alternate snows). I am considering these tires:

  1. BFGoodrich Advantage Control -$725- BFGoodrich Advantage ControlTireSize225/60R17 | Pep Boys
  2. Michelin Defender T&H - $895 - Michelin Defender T&HTireSize225/60R17 | Pep Boys
  3. BFGoodrich Advantage Sport $524 - BFGoodrich Advantage SportTireSize225/60R17 | Pep Boys
Performance isn't too important for me, I just want something that is going to last and be reasonably decent (for an all season) in upstate NY.
Thoughts/recommendations?

I would like to buy from a chain since I want to have the tire coverage transfer when I move in a year or so.

Thanks everyone
-Dan
Consider General AltiMAX RT43 or General ALtiMAX 365AW depending of your driving conditions.

Since I don't take turns on 2 wheels the most important for me is how quiet tires are, specially at higher highway speeds. I know, I'm spoiled by driving XJ8 most of the time without hearing anything from outside world, only music. So the quietest tires I could find are Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3. Plan to get them in next few days from Walmart with $70 rebate from Pirelli and upgraded size to 225/65R17 .

Those tires look worn but decent enough for a 2k trip if the tread depth is in the legal range. But I would try to avoid bad weather with that set of tires.
Many places only require 1/16th of an inch, but some places like Colorado require 3/16ths of an inch in the winter.

Enjoy your trip.
