2015 - Aisin CVTF-II equivalent? - SOLVED!

Hi everyone,

I'm due to change the CVT fluid in the wife's 2015 Forester NA (65,000km. probably qualifies as severe service) soon, but can't get the genuine stuff here in Jamaica, not even the dealer sells it. The dealer has been trying to push me towards Amsoil (which they of course sell) but I'm more interested in buying something more specific to the Subaru.
I can order the genuine stuff online but i'll admit it'll end up costing me about 2.5-3x the price of this Aisin fluid by time i pay shipping, then shipping to jamaica, then customs duties and VAT etc etc.

Aisin CVT Fluid for Subaru Info Sheet
Have any of you tried this fluid or have experience with it? I found one guy on BITOG who says he uses it, but that is a very small sample size for something as important (and EXPENSIVE) as the wife's Foz.

Will be happy for any help you guys can offer.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply
Welcome to Jamaica, where warranty ends 2 years after you buy the car regardless of mileage driven, to maintain warranty you have to service every 5000km at the dealer (at $300US per oil change) etc... This is the same dealership that keeps insisting that the brake light switch is not a recall item (despite it being recalled elsewhere and ours failng, and i having to change it out of pocket) etc.

So yeah, been out of warranty for a long long time and will never carry it to the dealer for anything. Also won't ever buy another Subaru so long as they are the dealer actually. Kingston Industrial Garage, you scum.

I agree with the drain and fill only removing about half of the total fluid capacity, but past experience in other vehicles has told me that doing multiple drain and fills is always safer and easier than attempting to rop the pan or remove all of the fluid. I was thinking to do one drain and fill, then do another whenever the subsequent oil change is (usually around 12,000km)

Aisin claims their fluid is compatible with the existing subaru stuff (same colour, same properties etc), so it shouldn't be a problem in terms of mixing. Just was wondering if anyone had any firsthand experience.

Just to follow up everyone,

Ended up getting some of the genuine CVTF-II on sale on ebay. Bought 13 qts and shipped it to Jamaica and did the pan drop / filter change/ fill - drain - fill cycle this week. Used up 12 qts and have one leftover as a (expensive) spare. Vehicle feels fine but I'll re-check the fluid level when doing my next oil change just to be safe.

To follow up, it took about half quart extra CVT fluid at the next oil change. All is well otherwise
