I didn't want to start a thread, but I'm new here and couldn't find what I was looking for. I Purchased a 2012 forester 2.5x premium about 6 months ago and I'm looking to start the modding. I wanna do some moderate off roading so I'm looking for all terrain tires what do you guys recommend and what will fit my stock 17's? Thanks.

This isn't a recommendation, but there are precious few options, so take a look at the Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S in size 215/60R17. At 767 revs/mile, it's only slightly larger than the OEM G95A's (775 revs/mile).

You'll also need to think about a full-size spare...

I'm running Geolander AT/S tires on my SF, and the size difference, they actually run big for their declared size, makes the speedo/odo more accurate than just about any other tire I've had on my SF. (or my GC8 Imprezza for that matter).

I've mentioned them in other posts and and I'm very very happy with them, and for first time in my car ownership career, I'm planning on buying them again when the current set wears out.

Shoot. I guess I get to eat my words. 16's DON'T get you a lot more options. Apparently only two more options. With the stock 17's your only option for A/T tires are the Geo AT/S. With 16's you only get TWO more options - the BFG All Terrain K/O's and General Grabber AT. Am I missing others?
I seem to remember someone posting a pic of their Forester on Hankook Dynapro ATM's on 16" wheels but I can't find that tire for sale in a 16. Any other options?

Once you get 16s there are a few good options out there.

I ran the Geolander ATs on a Jeep I used to have - they were good all around tires on trails - not so great on snow.

The BFG ATs come in 215/70 r16 and some have run this size on their Foz successfully while others reported some rubbing issues - this size seems to be just at the edge of possible. Good tire though...a bit pricy.

I just loaded up a set of 215/65/r16 General Grabber AT2s onto my SG. I had to order em online from Wal Mart. Don't usually buy anything from WM but it was cheaper there than Tire Rack b/c they offer a free ship to store option. Pretty good tires so far though. Look good, not too loud, pretty aggressive tread, no rubbing Issues at all. Only potential downside I see is that the sidewalls seem a bit soft - time will tell. Here's a pic or two.

Please see my post today under SG Forester Tire Options--I am looking for LT rated tires to put on my '12 Forester X LTD, which has 17" rims. I realize I might need 16" wheels--are there LT tires that would fit w/ those? If necessary, is a mild lift needed or reasonable? Many thanks, looking for help.

My General Grabber AT2s mounted on graphite painted Stock Subi rims are up for sale. Had em on less than a month - like new and fantastic tread. Discovered big mechanical issues with the Subi ( evidence of past major collision) and traded her in. Pulled the tires/ rims first and put the stockers back on.

Don't think you can get a better off road tire setup for a Subi. These things stuck to the road & trail like glue! Details of sale under the parts FS forum...
