2011 Forester XT O2 sensors? Have I been ripped off?

Hello to everyone,

I am new to the forum.

I have a 2011 forester XT and I love it.

Do you guys know how many O2 sensors the 2011 turbo engine has? I just took my car in for service and they replaced four sensors ( subaru part 22641AA670) for a whopping cost of $1000+ !
I feel I have been ripped off because the car was working fine prior to the service and the CEL has never come on in the two years+ that I have owned it.

Just asking for your opinion...:|

I see this is your first forum post, so welcome to the forum from Oregon!

You have two O2 sensors. Front/upstream O2 sensor (Air/Fuel) & a rear/downstream O2 sensor.

Any chance they changed "other" sensors & not just the O2 sensor?

Hi 2.5x_sleeper!

Thank you for the welcome and for the answer!

Here is the photo of the charge and part number. Hopefully is a mistake? I am going to call them tomorrow. This is a Subaru dealership in Alberta, Canada.

Seems like rip off.

I believe most cars have 2 oxygen sensors. Even if your car is special and has 4 oxygen sensors, the chance of all 4 failing is low. And it seems like this is routine maintenance. So there is no reason to replace oxygen sensors.

def an issue. my 2011 xt has two. both are different part #s as well, as the sensors are different. so id imagine you wouldnt even want 2 of the same one. esp since id imagine the rear/downstream sensor is much cheaper as well. replacing both sensors on our car should cost around $200, not $1K.

Thank you everyone for the replies!

I called another Subaru dealership and they confirmed that I only have two sensors in my exhaust system as you guys were saying.

I also contacted the dealership that made the mistake and it turns out they punched in the code for the o2 sensors instead of the spark plugs....:icon_eek: . I don't know why they were so adamant the other day insisting that I had four identical o2 sensors in my XT engine.

Anyway they already gave me a refund ($1000+) :smile2:
