Hey.

I would like to change my own oil. Can someone please help me? I have googled service manual with no luck. If someone has the instructions I would gladly take a scanned copy.

Cheers

Check over on scoobymods.com. They may not have anything specific to the 09, but I doubt it would be any different. Possibly, but doubtful.

re oil change

Get a Fumoto valve to make things easier. Buy a drain pan, oil and filter of what ever type you prefer. Warm up engine, shut off engine, put drain pan under Fumoto valve, drain oil, remove filter. Let the oil drain until it is just a drip.

Close Fumoto valve, install filter with a slight application of oil on filter gasket. Manual should give you oil specs type, quantity etc. Fill with oil, start engine, look for leaks, you're done. Hand tighten filter only.

Good things to have:
rags
flashlight
funnel
container to put oil in to take oil to recycler
one beer for after.

I don't think the "one beer for after" is a good thing to have. I'm pretty sure it voids the warranty if you don't have it. Can't remember what page of the SM I saw that on, but I'm fairly certain it is in there.

Nobody is born knowing this stuff - use the internal search function for this forum == very powerful and easy to find stuff. General Google searches are also good, but many just lead back here for the specifics.

Printed manuals are becoming more and more a thing of the past, with everyone using web forums and YouTube videos for that function now.

The fumoto valve is a replacement for the standard drain plug. Usually cars have a normal plug (think bolt) on the oil pan, you remove the plug and the oil pours out.

The fumoto valve is a replacement drain plug, do a google search and you'llf ind a lot of info on it. Basically it's a drain plug with a hole/tube going through it and a valve that prevents anything from going through the hole. Then when you want to drain the oil, instead of removing the plug, you just turn the valve and the oil drains out. Like i said, do a google search, you'll see plenty of pictures to explain it better.

Honestly, first do some google searches on how to change your oil, the process is pretty much the same for most vehicles. Once you understand teh very basic procedure, you can then find the info specific for subarus (check scoobymods).

And if you ever want more info on motor oil then check out bobistheoilguy.com
