will this work with MY09 XT Premium? I've ordered from the web last week and I've checked the wiring of the roof console. I notice it didn't have any spare power connector (I saw connections for both lights and sunroof)?? What should I do? Is there some kind of splitter that I can pickup from an auto shop? Any help will be really appreciated!

Part # for HomeLink wire harness is: H501SAG030
If you are replacing a standard mirror and you have a HomeLink mirror only.

Mine is always in the garage so I would like to be able to open the garage before starting the car :)
I don't have a Homelink, but I had a similar problem with wanting to open the garage door before I started the engine. I had a spare 'visor' opener, so I simply made a mount for it next to the door between the house and the garage.

Now, when I walk into the garage from the house, I can just tap the correct button and open either of the garage doors. I guess I could have hard-wired two switches there, but this was so much easier... plus, if I want to go outside in cold weather, I just drop the opener into my pocket and I can close the garage door behind me and let myself back in without unlocking the front door!

I have one of these mirrors standard with the subie from the dealer. It never has worked for me. I cruised thru the manual and didn't notice any instructions for it. I was told that if my GD opener ("garage door"... not, uh....) had a randomizing opener code it would be just an expensive trinket. I have a brand new Genie Pro Max opener on my door.

There is a little disclaimer in the intstructions that you may have to also use the "learn" feature on the garage door motor. This is what I had to do with both my garage doors. Go through the procedures of programming then, on the garage door opener motor itself there's a button to press to associate the remote with the door. Its a security feature so Joe Bloe (and not Joe Boxer) doesn't park outside your house and clone his opener to your door. Took 2 extra minutes and works fine.

Thanks for the info/write up. Another idea I've been considering is converting one of the dummy switches next to the fog light switch for use as a garage door openner. I don't think it'd be that hard, just a matter of finding a momentary switch that fits in the blank.

Have you tried the dealer with that part number 426dfv ?
No I haven't try the dealer yet. I don't know whether they will have the splitter or connector for it since auto-dimm mirror is not available for forester in Australia. Auto-Dimm with compass is available as an optional accessory for Tribeca and I'm keen to know if they have a way to connect it to the existing wiring.

MailMan: The connector wrapped around foam is already connected as it's link to the sunroof.

Did You read this thread, re:wire tapping into?

Good luck.
Thanks for the link man.. but i still have a couple of questions (sorry!)

I went to Subaru service this morning and they told me that the Tribeca has a different wiring and they can't help.

I then check with local auto shop and the sale staff said their electrician can do it ($66.00/hr). The only concern is the wiring on the 3 pin plug. Since all 3 wires are black (one with white strip), can anyone tell me which one is which?

The info i gather from other forum..

Ground for the centre black
Homelink for the black with white strip
Auto-Dimm & Compass for the remaining black

Is this correct?

Also I saw they all run wires to the fuse box to get the power.. is this a must or can I just tap into the switch that connected to the roof console?

I finally got around to trying to install my homelink mirror tonight and I cracked my damn windshield.
I was trying to fasten the adapter piece to the existing windshield mount. I don't know what the problem was but the adapter would NOT fit correctly over the mount. It kind of fit over it but it was easy to tell it was not on all the way; it was not flush to the windshield and I could not get the middle screw shown in the last pic of this post to thread in at all, no matter what I tried. I could get the bottom one to thread in slightly but that did not seem secure. I am sure it is supposed to fit on there snugly but I honestly think something is not quite right with the adapter I have.
Anyway, I was trying to be careful but I got frustrated and I just pressed too hard trying to get it on, and of course a crack spidered out everywhere. I know I had done everything correctly up to that point so I am baffled. In retrospect I might have tried sanding the adapter down to make the "hole" wider to see if that would allow it to slip over the mount correctly. Either way it looks like I'll be calling the insurance company tomorrow. Argh! :yell:

Just to update: I searched and found that filibence had the same problem I did with the adapter (P/N H501SSA040). This is a different one than Legacy used in this writeup, but it's the one shown in the instructions and the one my dealership sold me.
The thing is just not made correctly. I had to dremel it out at least 1mm wider to get it to fit over my windshield mount. It was never going to fit the first time I tried it which is why I ended up cracking the windshield.

Also as an FYI the plastic wire covers that came with my version of the mirror were way too long so I had to shorten those as well.

I know how you feel re: the windshield cracking. The dealership replaced the homelink mirror on my OBW and cracked the windshield exactly as you described. I think there may be different combinations of mirrors and mounts out there that don't play well with each other.

I say that because the new homelink mirror they installed does not look exactly like the one that shipped pre-installed.

I posted in another Homelink thread, but I just want to make sure it gets clarified. What parts (and associated numbers) do I need when swapping from the OEM dimming/compass mirror to the Homelink mirror? Camlock? Wiring adaptor/harness? That little metal clippy thingy? TIA!!!

Does anyone have one of those Stanley garage door openers that work with the Hi-beam flasher? I remember seeing them on sale quite awhile back. It seems to me to be a very simple and elegant solution. I haven't seen them lately, so I guess there were problems with them.

So I got the camlock adaptor thing and am ready to install this thing...finally. I was just wondering if part number H501SAG030 as listed above is the short wiring harness that I need. Again, I went from a auto-dimming compass mirror to the Homelink mirror and the harness is different. My mirror didn't come with the harness. I just want to make sure I order the correct part. TIA!

Another thing I noticed is that the original plastic piece that hides the wiring doesn't work with the new mirror. I know this part comes in the "kit", but my mirror came off of eBay and didn't have either this part or the small wire harness. Any help figuring out the additional part numbers would be GREATLY appreciated. TIA!
