Hello,
I am looking to replace some Yoko geo g015's. They have done very well, mostly bought them to have something that performs well in the snow. I would most certainly buy them again. However, I like experimenting. I have been eye balling the BFG KO2's.

I have been noticing online that people don't like their performance in rain. But they have also been on cars that are not subi's. My question is, how do the BFG's on a subi handle in the rain. Have you noticed them slipping or hydroplaning?

Also while on the subject, how have you liked the BFG's in general and would you buy again?

thank you for your time and have great day.

I'd add that all tires are a compromise.
Off road plus generally means on road minus.

Soft compounds great for winter won't last well in the summer.
High mileage and great traction are on opposite ends of the spectrum. You don't get both.

With enough speed, any tire will hydroplane.

Longitudinal groves help as the tire can shed water more easily, and narrower tires (aka higher aspect ratios) means less contact area and therefore more vehicle weight is applied to the tire's contact patch to help pump the water out with more force.

Trail tires seldom have those above attributes, and in the case of the BFGs, there is no direct path, either parallel or perpendicular to the tire rotation, that will allow water to be easily disbursed, and therefore, the tires are more likely to hydroplane at a lower speed than a tire that can more easily displace water under the tire.

Trail tires also tend to be wider for a given rim size, which is great for off road traction, and for snow, but not for hydroplane resistance.

I have the BFG AT K02 tires on both my Forester(4 yrs) and a 99 Rav4(longer). They are tough heavy tires, for tough and lonely places. If I drove on road all the time I would have different tires. These tires air-down well and I like the way they look on my Forester. I've never had any problems in the rain and they can easily handle 2 feet of snow. These tires will build a dust cloud, at a lower speed than regular street tires.

Stay safe out there
