Does anyone know the weight of a SOHC EJ25 drained of fluids and without the manifold and accessories? I'm having trouble chasing down an actual number. I have a vehicle in a tricky spot and might not be able to use an engine hoist.
Heads 28# each
Block halves #54
Crank with rods #34
Components not weighted
No crank pulley, no timing components, no pistons, no oil pump, oil pan, no power steering, no AC compressor. No intake, no flywheel and clutch (manual), no flex plate automatic,
I recently autopsied a dead engine and still have all the parts. I literally stood on the scale to get you those weights.
Cut a piece of 3/8 or thicker plywood/OSB to protect the AC condenser. That will cost you 4-500 to replace if you smash it.
The issue you are going to have is lining up the transmission and engine. 2 floor jacks would be best or at least one floor jack under the engine and you could use the emergency jack under the transmission. The trans needs jacked up a bit so the trans and engine can mate before the engine mount bolts are seated. I do not envy you. I had an engine hoist and it was still a Bear to align the engine and trans. Get a goodnight sleep and bring lots of patients. Brut le force will not help. Ots all about finesse...... I had to walk away a 11pm when snow started falling and the engine hoist was hanging half way out the garage so I could not close the garage door. I ended up inside getting warm. Grabbed a single beer. Went back out and got the engine to mate and drop in.
Not trying to be discouraging just giving you a heads up. The first time I did a Subaru Clutch I laid under the car jacked up on 4 jack stands while I balanced the transmission on my shins to get it lined up by myself. So I'm aware of what can be done.......
