Painting front bumper underguard

Hi everyone,

My front bumper is a little bit bent, and I bought this front bumper underguard to mask it
Subaru Forester Front Bumper Underguard (Part No: E551SSC000)

I expected that it would be a metal (like aluminium) but it is just a plastic in gray-silver color. My car is white, so it does not really match.

So I wanted to paint it in flat black, and was looking for advice what paint to use, something cheap and durable. Or should I not mess with it and just take it to a body shop for professional painting?

Any plastic paint will do. Personally I would use plasti dip. That way you don't have to worry about prepping for painting and it will match the black plastic trim on your bumper.

Plasti Dip is great no prep and you get a good finish. My only problem is that in areas that see any abuse it comes off pretty quick I wonder how it would do on the bumper. The coming off quick is also a plus though haha, decide you don't like it rip it off. I think if you want it to last longer get some good plastic paint.

^ all valid points, and if something does peel it off while on the road, you can 1) carry a can or two in the vehicle, to spray away the imperfections, and 2) you can wait to get home to respray... Easy Peasy...

If you go with plasti dip, the regular black should closely match the bumper trim. Even if its a bit off for you're liking, you can also dip the bumper trim for one even color. If you decide to use a pernament paint, the semi-gloss black would be your best choice.

I presume, that's the spot ? (arrow) In that case, just spray it with Plasti dip, no need for a filler. Once that spot is dipped, it will blend in with the rest of the trim.

Looks good, btw. :smile2:

Yeah that's the spot. In reality it is Behind the bumper cover, not between it and the native black plastic, almost like "pulled away", so if you push on it hard, the space disappears.

So this is what you recommend? Would you mask the native plastic edge?
