As a few of us have been discussing, I'm installing a 8" sub in the 6x9 location. You can click on each picture to see a larger version.

Since I have an Forester X, the location started off with a pocket:

Behind the pocket was foam that I had to cut out. It could possibly be used as a fiberglass mold in the future...

The empty location with measurements-

First I cut out MDF to help fill the spaces.

Next I sealed the entire location using adhesive metal silicone, spray foam and RAAMmat.

Now create a speaker baffle- (Pic from Tre36's Forester)

mounted the baffle with sheetmetal screws and I sealed it up with RAAMmat.

Then I covered the area with Ensolite-

Next I mounted a JL Audio 8w6-

My wife even helped out a bit with a grill. Since the F-X does not have a speaker grill like the FXT we had to make one.

Tan grill cloth and a $2 vent from Home Depot. The grill is much bigger than the opening, but it will mount to the trim piece from behind the upholstery.

All finished!!!

Throwing in a Pioneer Double DIN

Hey Guys,

You seem to know your stuff when it comes to car audio so I am asking for a little help. I am a first time Forester owner and really do not know much about the car. I have a 1999 Subaru Forester Sport and I have been wanting to replace the stock deck with a Pioneer AVH-P3100DVD.

My question is when I get everything off and get the stock deck out, what do I have to do after that to get this new deck in firmly. I am going to go out and buy those easy connectors and crimp the wires together, but I was not sure if I would need a Stereo cage or not for the double DIN. And if I do, where can I find one?

Like I said I am just beginning to learn about the Forester and need some help. Anything is greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys,

Matt

sadly my kit started to rattle a tad bit :( thats what i get for a hasty install with no caulking or extra sound deadening. i am going to take apart and reinstall very soon with fresh glue and caulking around the box, new sound deadening, polyfill, and a fabric over the front :)

I have the opportunity for a steal on a few different subs, not sure what to get. I got a steal on a Kicker 100w mono 1ohm stable amp with lowpass filter, so I will be using that to push.

(2) JL Audio 6.5 W3-V3 for $150

(1) MB Quart 12" slim mount $64

(1) Kicker Solobaric L7 10" $74

(1) Infinty Perfect 10.1 10" $34

(2) kicker CVT 10" $85

Mounting depth is iffy on the Solobaric, but i would mount it over the opening and trim the factory carpet around it.

What do you guys suggest?
