Has anyone got roof bars on an FSTI

One thing I was looking forward to doing with the FSTI was going off mountain biking which I couldn't do with my old type R.
So I have bought Thule aero bars with the Forester 03 on feet (4900 and adapter 4910 kit) But the bars on the FSTI don't have the grooves on the outside like on the UK Foresters so they don't fit :frown: Can anyone help :icon_question: Does anyone know if I can fit bars to these :icon_question:
Cheers Col

I haven't actually got any, but the brochure shows some Thule kit for the JDM Foresters including the STi.

Page 14 in http://accessory.subaru.co.jp/forester/catalog/index.html

Those look like part numbers (you can zoom in) so might be worth seeing if those are available in Europe, maybe from Subaru.

Maybe giving you a link to the brochure was a bad idea... :icon_cool:

I was just about to edit my post to say, 'but not the UK Subaru web site'! But you beat me too it. Its hit and miss on there with stuff. I have found actual dealers web sites that list more accessory information than the official UK web site...

If you know what I mean.

Col, when you say it doesn't have grooves on the outside, I take it you mean on the "Non Roof" side of the bars. If so, my FXT06 has roof bars with a groove on the inside and there are Thule adaptors for them, cos I've got some!! If you look on the Thule website there is a fitting program, which will give you the correct bits.

For the FSTI you need to use Thule base that fits on the inside of the roof bars not the outside - IMHO the subaru original base is not suitable for the JDM cross sports or FSTI. the width appears to be 860 mm for the thule instead of 900 for the UK parts.
look for jdm parts no. E3617SA500 and E3617SA560 for base and base+ bike carrier respectively

I have the JDM 04/05 accessories brochures and also the UK 2004 and 2006 accessories brochures - pm me if you want a scan of these

Paul, I agree that E3617SA520 is correct for those with the smaller-profile rails. The Thule site doesn't differentiate any of the 03-onwards cars, so either the UK 06 car has still got the thicker bars, or it isn't up-to-date for the 06.

Incidentally, if you choose your country to be Japan on the Thule site and then go through the same links as for the UK page to select Subaru you'll end up in a PDF with very comprehensive fitting details.

I've attached a copy for those that wish to try their translation skills. It will require the Japanese fonts - Acrobat Reader should pull those down.

Thanks everyone for your help.I have tried Thule UK and they couldn't help. Ian Litchfield could order the same ones as Karma showed in the Subaru jp website. My local (Gatwick) Subaru dealer is getting me a price for these as well so should be OK
Many Thanks

3 fairly easily; 4 if you twist the handlebars round so they're parallel with the bike frame.

Good idea to do the latter anyway as it makes a significant difference to fuel consumption and wind noise at motorway plus speeds.

Thanks for that, an FSTI owner and a windsurfer, you must have good taste!

It looks like Thule 4900 & 4910 are the ones to go for.

Have you used them for your windsurfing kit. I'm the same i dont want to loose my boards on the motorway.

Lol, great minds think alike ;)
I have yes.
What boards do you have btw?
Lucky you are near the coast!
Put some pics up of the beast when you get the boards on ;)

Will do,

I've got JP Supersport 118, JP Freestyle wave 93 & 78, i like the JPs they handle great, sails are Neil pryde 8.2 & 7.0, Arrows 6.0, Ezzy 5.2, Neil Pryde 4.5 & 3.7 so got most weather covered. I sail at Tarifa mostly, only been once when it was too strong for a 3.7!:icon_mad:

What have you got? i like the pic
