that is the irony, threats or risk of class action take care of this in the US, so if anything this is NOT a reason to be glad to have paid money up front for a service plan/"extended warranty"

As someone who worked in the insurance business I always have to wonder at rationalizations by people who get these extended service plans (and legally that is what they are even if called informally "extended warranty") for passenger cars. Repeat the sales pitch phrasing all one wants, but nothing is going to change the fact that these make no financial sense for majority of car buyers.

Class action will not be forward looking. The answer is "NO"

Class action existing at this point? maybe not.

But threat of, and public relations cost of one, which translates into sales cost, is usually a factor when these extensions are announced
