2025 - New Extended Warranty questions?

Hi everyone, I put a deposit on a 2025 Forester and am excited to be coming into this community. I'm considering purchasing Subaru's Added Security Gold Plus extended warranty coverage from the dealer upon delivery, but their quote for 8/80, $100 deductible seems very high at $3,580. They came down from original quote of $4k saying they'd give it to me at their cost of $3,580. I'd love your thoughts!

You have 3 years or 36K to make a decision. As mentioned previously you can get quotes from other dealers.

Personally I think it's worth it because I drive over 30K/year for work. Whatever you do, don't let a dealer try selling you a 3rd party warranty. (and they often do because they're more profitable to them than an SOA warranty)

They make more than $420 on a warranty sale. Guaranteed! When I worked at a Honda dealer and was buying my car there they were going to sell me a warranty at 50% off. I know it's not a apples to apples comparison, but I believe you can do better. As others have mentioned: you have 3/36 to buy the warranty, shop dealerships for the best price, don't buy third party warranties and I recommend negotiate. They rather sell for partial profit than no profit at all. Warrantees are where they make their money on the sales side for new cars. I don't mind them making money but I don't want to fund the dealership for a month either.

It sounds pricey to me. Good advice so far. Shop around.
There is no need to buy the extended warranty with the car and you can try to get a better deal.
What you were offered is obviously on the expensive side.

As was noted, you can buy that same warranty at any time while the factory 3 year/ 36K mile standard warranty is intact.
The Subaru gold plan period starts of the day of the vehicle purchase, but doesn't add much value until the factory warranty expires years and miles from now.

You can get a pro-rated refund, if you sell or total the car, but you'll end up paying for that period of time or mileage (whichever is worse) without additional benefit while the standard warranty is intact.

Compare that potential cost with the risk of the warranty price going up.
There is risk/reward either way unless you typically keep a car less than 3 years, in which case the warranty is a cost more than a benefit.

UPDATE: the two best prices I got were from Stanley Subaru in Maine and Kennedy Auto in PA. Quote for 10/100/100 was $2130 plus tax and $2370 for 10/100/0. My dealer ended up matching the price, although their system couldn't go as low as the quote, so they had to enter their lowest price in the system, which was $2670, and then deduct $300 off the car selling price so it would be net zero. Most dealers didn't return my call.

They still made money on the deal or they wouldn't have gone for it.

You didn't say where you were located, but I noticed you had quotes for the Gold Plan from both Maine and Pennsylvania.
Did either location say they would sell you the plan, or did they just give you their price?
I'm asking because there has been conflicting information as to whether there is a requirement to purchase the warranty somewhere local to your location. It used to be that any dealer could sell the plan, then they couldn't unless you were local, and now it seems like maybe the local requirement is no longer enforced...
