2025 Forester Limited, can a camera be mounted on the windshield? I know there is a lot of "technology" already there, appreciate comments.

For my ‘17 it is quite picky-sounding.
I used the guide as more of a "suggestion" on my 2017. I found a lot of the exclusion area to be way out of the cameras' ranges. Once Subaru went to the cameras directly on the windshield, I suspect that the exclusion areas should have disappeared. (Although I could understand them showing exclusion areas that would interfere with the driver's vision.)

My dash cam is tucked behind the right side of the rearview mirror, so I can't even really see the screen (which shuts off anyway) when I'm driving. EZPass is up at the edge of the windshield on the passenger side where it would be blocked from my view if the visor was down. Both are in areas the Subaru tells me not to mount things, but they're also areas that the cameras can not actually see.

The 2025 EyeSight cameras are in enclosures that extend right to the windshield. You can mount stuff on the inside of the windshield without worrying about obstructing the EyeSight cameras. Don't mount anything on the outside of the windshield in the areas that the EyeSight cameras look through. (Some dashcams have accessories that can be mounted to the outside of the windshield, like membranes that repel water. If you don't use these kinds of things, don't worry about it.)

On the 2025 the enclosures around the camera extend to the windshield. Compare that to the old EyeSight system where the cameras were out in the open and you could stick stuff in front of the camera, and the camera could see reflections of stuff on your dashboard. There is no problem mounting stuff anywhere on the inside surface of a 2025 windshield. That part of the manual didn't get updated.
