2023 - Touring - Sunroof not tinted?

I noticed it in her 2008 and her 2020 before we bought them. Personally, I'm not a sunroof kind of guy. .....my wife is. Then again, she is more about opening the top vs. just pulling back the shade so tinting is kind of a moot point in our case.

....and no, warping, etc. has never been in a problem in our case in either of her Foresters. She had her 2008 for about 13 years (253k miles) before we got rid of it. While both are garaged, they do sit outside most of the week during the day while she is at work. We also live in So. CA where it's sunny and in the summer and we can experience periods of 100+ degree days like we are now.

You can always look at aftermarket options but do your research first. There are those who are adamant that tinting roof glass can result in shattering. However, there are others who claim it's a misconception.

I have no idea if there is any truth to it or not but if my wife did complain about it, I'd go ahead and have it tinted for her as I just haven't seen enough evidence to convince me it is a concern. ......quite the opposite. It's your call though which is why I recommended doing your research. I wouldn't want to advise something that could actually result in that sort of problem for someone as I just don't have anything solid to provide you either way.

....factory "tinted" glass can simply imply shaded, darkened or dyed glass (aka privacy glass). It's not automatically synonymous with aftermarket windows films.

....and yes, although not a significant improvement in UV protection over the other non-laminate windows, the factory tinted glass in my wife's 2020 Forester does block more UV. 5% more actually.

As for heat rejection, just from personal experience they do make a difference but again, quality aftermarket films will perform much better in this regard (including UV).

Having said that, the roof glass (at least on the 2020) is laminate like the windscreen and blocks 100% of UV. Adding a window film (if you go that route) still makes sense in regard to heat rejection though.
